CABIN FILTER DIMENSIONS

Hello everyone and Happy New Year!!

Two questions:

1. I am trying to find out the dimensions of the cabin filter that the G's use under their hoods to filter the outside air coming in to the passenger compartment.

I am looking to find a K&N filter (if possible) and I need:
The Height:
The Outside Length:
The Outside Width:

* I measured the opening on the underside of the hood and found the dimensions to be:
Width: ~ 5.75"
Height: ~ 10.0"

2. Secondly, does anyone have instructions on how to replace the wiper arm/shafts? I am going to have to replace the right-hand side one (and do the left-hand side one at the same time as well), but I am wondering what you have to remove etc.. to replace them both.

Many Thanks in advance,
Matt

RE: CABIN FILTER DIMENSIONS

I solved this with cut-to-fit filter elements.

To support the underside of the filter make a floor out of stiff 1/4" X 1/4" steel mesh. I happened to have stainless on hand, but galvanized would do nicely. Then cut a fitted section out of an HVAC fiber filter roll. The only problem with this setup is that, with the hood up, slamming a door will blow the filter out of place.

I'd post a picture, but the G is at home.

Wiper shafts ... why change them?

What is wrong with the shaft? There are repair parts for the seals. That and some waterproof grease should get all be the most rusted together wiper shafts moving again. All of that work can be done from the outside of the truck.

Are you sure about K&N?

K&N filters need to be oiled to trap dust.  The oil in't great smelling, and as with any petrochemical, isn't good for you to breathe.  I guess you could use it dry and see if it does anything, but they really do rely heavily on the oil to "stick" the fine particles to the gauze.  Without the oil, the dust will come right through.  I'm with Alan, use furnace filter material, maybe even the HEPA type.  The $ they get for them seems expensive as a furnace filter, but when you figure you can cut 4-6 G filters out of one, it's a lot cheaper than the factory ones.

Also if you search on "wiper" in the BenzWorld forum with me as the author you'll find a thread where I detailed some improvements to the wiper shafts to prevent your new ones from rusting or wearing out by providing a method to grease them from the outside periodically.

not very correct. just had to change shafts because right one was so rusted that it didnt moved at all. actually wiper worked but only without tightened nut - all the shaft moved in the hole. tried different lubes, rust removers but with no success. Had to replace them. The old one has been now in the Penetrating oil for 1.5 months and still nothing

Just buy new ones, grease them well and add some waterproof lube inside of the plastic covering. You will be amazed how smooth movement have the new ones
