Nice pictures. I see that you have same experience in Africa. Being in Portugal / Algarve In very close to Marrocos and of course I would like make a trip there. I have bean advised not to take my own car. I have bean told that there is a hi risk that will be robbed and that the cars are so beat up after the trip to the desert that you can send then direct to the junkyard. Any comments to this claim?

Hello Vasco, not sure if I'm interpreting your question correctly! Morocco or Southern Africa/Namib desert? If it is SA you have nothing to worry about. But for Morocco I can't comment.

Hello, I’m asking about North Africa but a desert is a desert I guess. Is it really so hard on the cars that they are doomed after a trip there?

Thanks

Twodogs, a G is so precious that when I drive one I’m more careful than when I drive my wife Citroen C3.
Do you know if there are any serious security questions?

RE: Greetings from Sahara

On the whole Morocco is safe , loads of people travel in all sorts of 4 x 4 s with out any problems .
look at some of the organized tours a lot start at the ferry port that removes a lot of the worry's ...at a cost .
you will get hassled by the locals but that's Africa .
as with any off road driving there's risks to the vehicle but most can be avoided with correct driving procedure and practice , its not the Dakar theres no rush .
as for the G it will love it .

I have been to the Namib desert (the highest dunes on the continent) 5 times and always have come back to go back again. You have to watch where you're going (you can get mighty stuck) but, for sure, no vehicle are "doomed" after such trip.

Hi Twodogs, nice atavar!
My G is total original but is a Long Worker (without window is not easy to found).
For the Trip i have only change the shock absorber with 4 Koni Heavy Track but i have take with me Water and fuel pump, a lightmaschine, starter and spring coil with cable (and and and .. ).

But the rest of the car is original, manual gearbox with 2 differential lock.

@amzimmy --> Hi! How are you? The trip is going without problem and with the factory motor, Not bad for this 23 years old's baby!
The Discovery, Hummer, jeep, Defender and Landcruiser can only eat dust and sand

RE: Greetings from Sahara

Hey "FEDAYEEN" Freestyler, you look more like a local than a "nice" Bellinzona-Boy!!!!
Here all is well and preparing for “our” next trip……maybe the Serengeti?

Very nice and inviting photos, just as a matter of interest, a few questions:
At what tire pressure do you pump your tires in that soft sand?
Are you mainly in low range or hi range?
You run on quite small, narrow (diameter) tires, what is the reason for choosing these particular ones?
Here in SA the “big Gurus” would say : “With those “Marie-Biscuit” you won’t get far in soft sand!!!!”

Bonne chance and keep the photos rolling!

Ciao!
We must preparing a next trip but i think in Morocco (Serengeti is wonderfull but.. far )
The tire pressure was 1.5 bar for emulating a float on the sand,
My motor is "only" a 230 so is better running with lo range, most power and quickly.

I know my tire are not a Caterpillar but i chose this why on the road i must reach 100-115 km/h with other bigger tire I can't do it.
Well, bigger is better but when you see the old Land 88 with a small 195 wheels... you say "I can do IT!!"
