RE: G Wagen dealer in Norway

more questions,
Are the Gs at the top of the market price going to be rebuilt or ex-mobalizion stock ?
What milage should i expect on a Ex -mobalisation stock G ?
Is it likely to come with is military service history log ?
What equpiment would of been with the vehicle in service ?
I know the sellers could tell me all this but an outside opinion tends to help ?
Cheers

RE: G Wagen dealer in Norway

Most likely ex-mobalizion, would normally have logged from 80-100.000 kms.
They'd have NATO-standarized jumper cables, showel, axe, chains, jerry cans, roof rack, first aid kit, a tow wire and propably a lot more I've forgotten.

Going for a mint one you'd, in my eyes, be best of with this one: http://www.finn.no/finn/car/object?finnkode=9051964&sid=4aJWZNHRz79...

It's in Stavanger, so you'd just fly over and jump on the boat back to your island

RE: G Wagen dealer in Norway

The top-priced ex-mil G's from the dealers mentioned above are stock. They're sorted more or less on visuals, mileage and a quick drivetrain inspection. That means you might end up with a good looking crap car or a crap looking good car. Anyways, most of them are well maintained but as we dont have a professional army, the maintenance is often performed by bored kids that couldnt care less if the driveshafts are grinding metal. I'd go for the mid priced ones IF I was to buy from those dealers.
Mileage vary but the ones I've seen were all well below 100 000km and quite a few around 50 000.

And a bit of inside-information to foreigners. When the army first started selling the GD's on auctions the dealers mentioned and in particular one other bought them in bulk and stockpiled them to sell to the private market. That accomplished 2 things: 1.The prices for good civilian G's dropped very fast. 2 The A+ ex-mils are now sold for half the price as the novelty begins to fade and wifes and mothers complain about not having servo and the color not matching the house.

My advice would be to search the used car websites and buy private to save money. I'm sure you'll find lots of volunteers that could check out cars for you. Obviously the risk would be greater but these cars are quite fresh on the market so I doubt any of them will be in much worse condition than when they left the dealer.

RE: G Wagen dealer in Norway

Hi
These might be of interest
They were in stock in the UK a few weeks ago. Guy told me they were ex-Danish mil.
http://dbase.evems.com:1066/FMPro?-db=inventory2.fp5&-format=jackso...

FWIW if you look on his website homepage, the G Wagen links are all messed up. Click on the other military vehicles "click to view details" link on the left hand side pictures and it brings up other G Wagen types.
Regards
David

Re: G Wagen dealer in Norway

FYI

The first Mercedes Geländewagen sold from the army was ex-mobilization vehicles stored and maintained for several years. Later they sold wrecked cars and other damaged vehicles that had been in foreign service, Kosovo, etc.

Some few ex-mobilization vehicles had from 1000km (very few) and up to 8000 km, others had up to 18.000km. There were probably sold around 60 low-km ex-mobilization vehicles, i.e < 50.000km. If you find any of these they were well stored and maintained by one of the main engineering workshops in northern Norway. I don't agree about the "bored kids" maintenance routine, since these vehicles were under the same regime as the BV-206 and Leopard tanks! They had silocone brake fluid and of course NO rust.

Even though they were "newer" models 1985-1989, they had the old style instrumentation/switches. You also probably know that all army models got the OM616 Engine, 24V electrical system, no power steering, canvas, 5.33 differential, som has 205 tires, newer uses 225/75-R16, webasto (24V), no rear seat (longitudinal rear benches), etc..

461/240GD in good conditions are regularily and easy available on the web links/ads you got. Don't hestitate to ask if problems occur.
