I read in the newspaper that Magna Steyr also assembles the Saab 9-3 Convertible and the BMW X3, but why is it that they both still stuck?

"stuck"?? Not sure what you mean.

As you can see from this photo taken in September 2005, MS builds a lot of different cars. Total production at that time was approximately 1,000 vehicles per day. 23/day of those were MB Gwagens. The E-Class 4matic has since been moved to Stuttgart.

Re: Magna Steyr

I'm wondering why the Saab and BMW still suck. Is it because the car companies are paying for cheaper materials to be used?

If so, it's because Saab and BMW spec them that way. MagnaSteyr is a contract auto builder. They contract to build the vehicles to the car companies' specifications.

Here's a link to the page that shows many of the vehicles that have been built in Graz.

http://www.magnasteyr.com/cps/rde/xchg/SID-3F57F7E5-4D21986B/magna_...

Click on the double arrow to scroll through 21 images. You'd be amazed at what's been built there. The picture is not in that series of photos, but that wild looking Audi Quatro TT sports car was designed from the ground up and built in Graz.

Just about every 4wd and all wheel drive vehicle in the world can trace some of its roots to that facility. They are the best!

RE: Magna Steyr

wow that is mind-blowing that the 4Matic E was (and is, apparently) built in an entirely different plant from the other E's which are built in Sindelfingen.

I had no clue

RE: Magna Steyr

That would be the coolest place to be employed.

You could walk around and see all of these totally different cars being produced.

And Austrians, man, they can build anything.

he is the governator.

That is really amazing that so many cars were built in Graz. I wasn't aware of so many companies employing them. I thought it was just DaimlerChrysler. Great info.

I said "and is, apparently" because you said they're now built in Stuttgart not Sindelfingen.  Right?

Stuttgart and Sindelfingen are like NYC and Brooklyn. Same metro area.
