RE: Daimler Considers Dumping Chrysler

Nothing good comes out of a consumer name brand tagging with a luxury maker. One's going to go up while another goes down. We can all guess as to what has happened, as of now.

RE: Daimler Considers Dumping Chrysler

Which "luxury" maker are you talking about.

Mercedes makes taxis and trucks and delivery vans and little bitty A-class cars.

Are you refering to the hugely successful models that we know as the w202, w124, w140 and later the w210(208 coupe) and w163? Those mistakes can't be blamed on Chrysler-- It's easy to assume by the reliability ratings and consumer feedback(this is NOT coming from die-hard MB fans that'd worship a squeaky, rattly, chunks missing ML-Class SUV simply because it wears a star with a laurel wreath on it) that Chrysler is a huge asset to Daimler Chrysler.

Chrysler isn't doing so badly with their current crop of cars-- neither is Mercedes-Benz. What we are seeing is a market shift wherever Asian companies are the majority, and American/European ones are bit players(that invent everything, but fail in implementation) in niche markets.

We'll always have American trucks and German cars; don't worry. They'll just be lost in the sea of government-approved champagne, white and silver Asian sedans.

RE: Daimler Considers Dumping Chrysler

"The Times of London said DaimlerChrysler's adviser, JPMorgan Chase, will give private information about the unit to any interested parties. Among the other rumored players: private-equity firms, Hyundai Motor and Nissan-Renault (NSANY, news, msgs). A Bank of America analyst, Ron Tadross, said that Chrysler's price tag could be in the $5 billion range -- 86% lower than the $36 billion Daimler-Benz paid for Chrysler in 1998."

What if GM did buy Chrysler. Then GM can't afford anything, so the whole GM line/brand dies. Then Daimler buys Chrysler back from them. Perfect!

Now they are saying the Chinese are contemplating buying them. Instant dealer network, instant distrubution system and marketing and R&D in place.

Chery kind of looks like a Neon.
