Alternator Snorkel

On a previous thread on wading a number of members had never seen a snorkel on the alternator, this is because many rebuild shops discard them when they find they can't be refitted. here is why and how to rectify that.

Pic 1.
Left alternator with the round diode that prevents refitting of the cover.
Right alternator with rectangular diode that allows cover to be fitted

Pic 2.
Both alternators after No.2 reconditioned, with same component.

Pic 3.
The cover fitted.
Pic 4. the cover showing where to remove inside of casting to allow clearance
Part No.s are
Casting/cover 102 154 00 04
Rubber snorkel 102 154 02 86

RE: Alternator Snorkel

Whoop Ass is an essential out here in the country, where people say, "give me six"
Huss I have to test competitor products from time to time so I know I'm still ahead of the game, and it was free.

Good humour never was a bad thing thanks buddies

Re: Alternator Snorkel

I tried the same with Bosch and Huco regulators, couldn't fit the cover, I even grinded a hole... I've seen three different covers for 460s, whether how old you vehicle is, diesel or gasoline, in addition there are military with or without radio noise reduction, plastic and aluminium, different depths and widths. I already have two covers that don't fit my 300GD. As with the foldable back seat you can never tell thing for certain on the G's.

What brand is that regulator, maybe I can use one of my covers?

Re: Alternator Snorkel

did yuo make that? I could use something like on my G. I love mud, and to swim... I usually spray it out at the car wash when i was the truck, but any extra protection would be good.

then i can say " oh yea, my alternator has a snorkel"
