I would really like one of those cab-chassis versions. They're pretty few and far between - 70 series Land Cruiser trayback are good trucks, but I think one of them would be better.

The history of "G-wagen"

In 1972 the German car industry Mercedes-benz and the Austrian Steyr-Daimler-Puch, specialised in the manufacture of vehicles of pantodapoy' territory, found joint the GFG (Geldendefahrzeug Gesellschaft mbH) a kajnoy'gja company aiming at the growth and production of young person "Euro-tzj'p": A new designing and military specifications light "G-wagen" ("Geldndewagen"), vehicle of pantodapoy's ground, with movement stoy 4 wheels and beneficial charge of half tone, the likely substitute of DKW of/Auto-Union Munga and Willys M38. The production of vehicles of line ("baureihe") W460 begins on 10 February 1979 in the factory of GFG, in the Graz of Austria. "G-wagen" they are manufactured by galvanjsme'ni sheet-metal and are assembled in the hand, without no difference ana'mesa in the military and political vehicles. Up to 1992 are produced in total 6 models of W460 of line:

230G (M115 V23, 4-roll, 2307 kyv.ek., 90/120 of HP petrol engine),
230GE (M102 E23, 4-roll, 2299 kyv.ek., 125 HP petrol engine),
280GE (M110 E28, 6-roll, 2746 kyv.ek., 156 HP petrol engine),
240GD (OM616 D24, 4-roll, 2399 kyv.ek., 72 HP engine diesel),
250GD (OM602 D25, 5-roll, 2497 kyv.ek., 84 HP engine diesel),
300GD (OM617 D30, 5-roll, 2998 kyv.ek., 88 HP engine diesel).
In this line belong also the CKD (Completely Knocked Down)"G-wagen" that is assembled in Turkey (Aksaray) for the needs of Armed Forces of this country

In 1992 the line of W461 replaces in the lines of production the W460. The "G-wagen" is simplified and the available models is limited from 6 in 3:

230GE (M102 E23, 4-roll, 2298 kyv.ek., 122 HP petrol engine),
290GD (OM602 D29, 5-roll, 2874 kyv.ek., 95HP engine diesel),
290GDT (OM602 D29LA, 5-roll, 2874 kyv.ek., 120HP turbo engine diesel)
H line of W462 includes exclusively the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) military vehicles that are assembled in Greece for the needs of Armed Forces.

Finally the production of luxurious line of W463 begins in 1990, with in total 9 "top-end" models, that aim have the satisfaction of wish of customers for luxury and comforts:

230GE/G230 (M102 E23, 4-roll, 2299 kyv.ek., 125 HP petrol engine),
300GE/G300 (M103 E30, 6-roll, 2960 kyv.ek., 170 HP petrol engine),
G320 (M104 E32, 6-roll, 3199 kyv.ek., 210 HP petrol engine),
G320 V6 (M112 E32, 6-roll, 3199 kyv.ek., 215 HP petrol engine),
G500 V8 (M117 E50, 8-roll, 4973 kyv.ek., 241 HP petrol engine),
250GD (OM602 D25, 5-roll, 2497 kyv.ek., 94 HP engine diesel),
300GD/G300D (OM603 D30, 6-roll, 2996 kyv.ek., 113 HP engine diesel),
G300DT (OM606 D30LA, 6-roll, 2996 kyv.ek., 177 HP turbo engine diesel),
350GDT (OM603 D3Ä, 6-roll, 3449 kyv.ek., 136 HP turbo engine diesel).
And the three orders of production pro'sferan 3-cyro senta'n with short sassj' (2400 kms), 5-cyro senta'n with long sassj' (2850 kms.) and 2-cyro open (gabrio) with short sassj'. The lines of W460 and W461 moreover pro'sferan and a fortiga'kj (short or long sassj') and a sassj'-cabin, in that it could be placed any carrier.



The "G-wagen" becomes military...

The first purchasers of military publication of "G-wagen" she is the Frontier Police of Federal Germany (Bundesgrenzschutz), Norwegian, the Jndonisjako's and the Argentinian Army and, later, the Swiss Army, the Austrian and majority Barracks of NATO. Is somehow thus vindicated also the title of "Euro of/NATO-tzjp". Last members that adhere in the "G-wagen" Club are the Pezonay'tes of I.P.A., in the dues of the 1999.62 290GD with long sassj' and code name "IFAV" - Interim Fast Attack Vehicle) and the Canadian Army with a order 824 "G-wagen".

Military "G-wagen" they continue coming out from the lines of production of factory of GFG in the Graz and the Mercedes Benz it guarantees his continuous production up to 2025. At the same time from 1982 it is exported in form CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kjt and it is assembled in Turkey, in Greece (ELVO HM) and in France (model P4 - Peugeot - but with French engine and differential gear).



The G-wagen in the Greek Army

The "G-wagen" is manufactured or better assembled in Greece by the Greek Industry of Vehicles HM (ELVO HM), after authorisation of Daimler Benz AG. The vehicle is delivered in the ELVO litteraly in elements (Completely Knocked Down kit/CMD kit), apart from differential and the thills. All the Greek vehicles bring the signal of Mercedes Benz in the kapw'.

The ELVO is founded in 1972 and initially has the name Steyr Hellas S.A. in 1987, afterwards the transfer of Austrian action in the Greek State, the company is renamed in "Greek Industry of Vehicles HM". the factory of company is found in the Industrial Area of Sj'ndoy Thessalonica and in this is assembled the 240GD/24 (0,25 tons) and 290GD/28 (1,5 tons).



MB 240GD/24 & 290GD/24, sejra' W462

First "G-wagen" that is assembled in Greece were the 240GD of line of W462 (4-rollof engine diesel OM616D24 the 2399 kyv.ek, force of 72 horses DIN) with short metaxo'njo 2400 kms bivalve cabin of payment with clams roof and faculty of transport of charge of 0,25 tons. The vehicles of line of W462 are facsimiled with those of W460 that manufactures the GFG.

Progressively, 240GD replace out of date and mechanical aged Willys M3Å1, Ford M151A1 and Volkswagen Pressof Greek Army, Navy and Aviation. Up to it is today calculated that have been manufactured 8.500-9.000 "G-wagen" in various variants: Carrier of personnel of/charge (the more usual variant), Vehicle of Administration, Ambulance and Institution Opljsmoy'.

Around in the 1992 the 4-roll engine OM616D24 is replaced from 5-roll OM602D29 (2874 kyv.ek., force of 95 horses DIN). This engine is also placed in the 250 dexjotj'mona "G-wagen" that assembles the ELVO for the Cypriot Army.
