617A Injection Pump Question

I am about to install a M617.912 on my 280GE. The engine I got came without the injection pump but I have a pump that came off a turbo engine and my question is: Is it ok to use the injection pump from a M617.950, 951, or 952 (turbo engine) to a M617.912 (non turbo engine) without any major issues and which issues should be consired if any.

Thank you.............

RE: 617A Injection Pump Question

What do you mean by "ok" to use it?

Will the engine instantly explode?  No.

Will it run correctly?  No.

Will it run acceptably for you to drive it?  Only you can tell what you can live with.

In the end you'll be better off to get the correct pump for the enigine.  Infinitely fewer struggles to achieve good driveability.  The pumps changed over the life of that engine too so you'll be best off to get the right pump type by engine serial number, not just engine type (912).

Good luck!

Re: 617A Injection Pump Question

Thanks for your feedback. I have the option of buying a M617.912 complete from a 1979 300D that is probably my best bet. This engine brings the large glow plugs and I believe has larger pistons also than the 912's from 1981. I believe there is a conversion kit to go to the smaller glow plugs.

Thanks......
