Severe bearing failure

What happens if your front wheel bearing fails and you keep driving. This off a 280GE the owner kept driving it to destruction. Unbeleivable.

RE: Severe bearing failure

I've seen that before... I hate when people won't maintain their vehicles, or even listen for abnormal noises!!!

Cheers,
Ben

This one only stopped when the brake caliper caught fire.

Re: Severe bearing failure

What was the extent of the damage?
I see a broken shaft, brake pads & rotor due to heat, full set of bearings. Anything else?

Re: Severe bearing failure

Seen it before too, note damage to swivel housing at bolt hole
for caliper mounting.

The swivel housing is damaged beyond use, the axle tube is badly damaged internaly but my go again, the rest is as you say, shaft bearings disc caliper pads hoses, not yet sure about steering and track arm joints, "heat damage" and the alloy rim is scored and heat damaged.

Re: Severe bearing failure

I had a scare yesterday (Read my post "Chirp! Chirp! Noise; Thank You Wife"). I thought maybe I had some bearing/balljoint damage. All it turned out to be was build-up. This post is an excellent lesson. What were some reasons this happened to this particulatr G on this post?  Too much 4x4ing? Play in the joints? Ignoring service/maintenance?  Age?  I have a lot to be thankful for.
