RE: 2007.5 Mid-Year G-Wagon Facelift

The tire pressure monitoring device may come in useful, but I wish Mercedes would step up and incorporate something similar to H1's CTIS...

Am I one of the few that thinks the new steering wheel doesn't belong in the G? The old steering wheel which it shared with the E I think looked better. The old one looked fugly in the E, but perfect in the G.

cyntaxx,

CTIS can only e added to vehicles with off center axles (portal axles) - so, H1, Unimog, etc can have them easily. However the H1 system is so leaky that you may find your truck all flat after a long spree at the shopping mall (well, it takes a little longer, but you get my point).

Here where I'm from we use CTIS on the drive axles of all logging trucks during the winter months. This is possible due to the fact that the CTIS hardware is on the outside of the hub. In my opinion not the best compromise for a SUV.

I always wondered how a CTIS system could hold a seal for any extended period. I did see someone who had managed a CTIS system on a normal axle. The inflator was an add on that attached to the center of a "hubcap" with a swivel. It looked pretty strange and would have been removed by the first branch, but I suppose it was an engineering triumph of sorts.

edit: it was just like VonEpp posted, but it came down from above.

Robby Gordon's Dakar H3 race truck used a CTIS system similar to what Alan described ... I guess the 2WD trucks were permitted to automatically increase/decrease tire pressures depending on terrain.

I agree with you. The dashboard is now much better with the more square lines, reminding of the G-exterior, but the steering wheel looks more like taken from a Smart or some other toy. Doesn´t match anything in the car...!? I saw pictures of the new C-class which is a nice design, but also with a somewhat mismatched steering wheel. Too many designers involved could be the explanation...?

And it really doesn't look too much different than the one in my 2000 G500; which looks fine to me..
