Re: 463 Interior Change

I think, that the front seats and steering wheel have changed during the 90s, but basically the interior was the same from 1989 until the end of 2000.

Re: 463 Interior Change

I was wanting to know what year the changes happend. The interior in my 300GE is very different to a G500L. At some stage in the 90s the dash changed from the original 463 as well a seats and other features.

Re: 463 Interior Change

I am not sure what kind of 500 you are talking about. My friend had a 98 G500 and a 92 300GE and the interiors were very similiar. The new interior with Command as it is in the MBUSA Gs was introduced in 2001 Europe/2002 USA.

The biggest difference between the 300 and 500 was the steering wheel(98) and instrument cluster(late 96).

This interior is way different to my 300GE...

The biggest difference between the 300 and 500 was the steering wheel(98) and instrument cluster(late 96).

The steering wheel with the push buttons and the accompanying change to the cluster happened in mid 1999, staring with Fg-Id-Nr. ending in 116945.

It's really too bad that DaimlerChrysler Graz took down the 20 yr anniversary website, because it had a very nice time line in which it listed what changes happened when.

Re: 463 Interior Change

So we have the cluster change in '96, steering wheel in '98 and a complete overhaul in 2001?
Did the center console stay the same from '90-2000?

Thanks
Sean

I am not sure about this, friends car was made in 98 and had both the new instrument cluster and the steering wheel with buttons. I have also seen a 12.96 G300TD with the old steering wheel and new instrumeny cluster.

You may be correct. If so, DCAG's website and the EPC are in error.

RE: 463 Interior Change

You are right with the steering wheel, I have not found it on any other 98 500, friend s car must have been a 98 made 99 model. But there is a clear difference between the 98 and for example 91 instrument cluster.

Wheel & Cluster from Mid 1999

This is the steering wheel and instrument cluster that were introduced during the 1999 model year in Europe. Starting with Fg-Id-Nr which end with 116945.

The wheel and the cluster work together, since this cluster has a whole series of information available through the small screen at the bottom of the cluster directly under the speedometer. The only way to scroll through the menus is to use the two sets of buttons on the left side of the wheel.

Re: 463 Interior Change

also the location of the different dash and between seats switches has changed over the years. I think in the early 463's the window switches were up in the dash nearer to the diff lockers. Later, as in mine, they're down between the seats. The little compartment to the right of the stereo has changed over the 90's 463 interior. Mines an open compartment, others hold 3 audio tapes or something like that. and the exact configuration of how much wood, ashtray, and storage pockets in the consol between the seats has also changed a little over time. Less wood and a little more storage space for the newer ones i think.

These change virtually from car to car!

I have owned both a 91 and 2000 and sat in quite a few others and what I have noticed is that.

90-93 the same
94 drivers airbag added so different wheel
96 passenger airbag added (I think the abs switch might have been dropped at this point too)
2000 (mid 99) new multifunction steering wheel and hence new instrument cluster as Dutch shows.
2001 complete overhaul to command system

Somewhere in there, there is another minor change to the instrument cluster that adds a few more features like temp gauge and such. I think this may have been 96....

Just to add that in 1993 they introduced the pre-airbag steering wheel (same wheel but no airbag)
