G55K, G500 and G400 transmission

Does anybody know if there are any differences between the transmission in the G55K and G500? I am asking, because a short while ago I was talking with my friend, why not to buy a G400CDI. One of the reasons were transmission failures, which I tought were caused by the high torque of the 400 CDI engine. BUT the G55K has even much higher torque, and I have not heard about any problems. Can anybody explain me, why there were problems with the 400 CDI transmission and no problems with the transmission in the petrol models?

RE: G55K, G500 and G400 transmission

I thought that the issues with the G400CDI were not particularly gearbox-related but more likely due to the weakness of the timing chain and the lubrication and cooling of the twin turbos after a blast down the Autobahn

I know, that the most problems were with the turbo, but a few weeks ago I was talking with a strange guy(probably mafia) who has a 300GE. This guy told me, among other things, that he likes the reliability of this car, because all the 400 CDIs of his friends had turbo and transmission problems. I dont really have any expirience with the 400, and none of the people I know ever owned one, just what this guy told me.

I wonder how many problems the G400s really have. You hear a lot of people who know people who own them complaining about them but I have never actually heard a G400 owner complain directly.

I know of a few owner's here in the UK and all of them love their G400s and have had no complaints.

Perhaps it is as mortinson points out speed related and due to those who thrash them on the AutoBahn...

I owned one. Piece of junk. One of the most unreliable engines ever made. The engine has idle at 600 rpm's and between these and 1100 is nothing and after that, the Turbos start to work. I sold it and never looked back.

could be transfer case... not transmission, because when those trucks came out, they had plenty of t-case issues along with g500's and g55's.

surely a nice little turbo timer would sort the turbos out?
