Threepointed star? Why?

The Mercedes logo... Very nice, but I just realized I don't know why.

The BMW logo is a stylized airplane propeller, because Bayerischern Motor Werk used to make airplane engines BITD. Citroen has the chevron logo, but really it's a stylized herringbone gear, because they used to have such.

What about the Mercedes star?

RE: Threepointed star? Why?

The logo represents the domination over land, sea and air. In 1926, the Benz laurel wreath was added to symbolize the union of the two auto firms.

An interesting link explaining the meaning of car logos:

Re: Threepointed star? Why?

Mercedes-Benz's 3-pointed star stands for Land-Air-Sea. Mercedes got that star from a postcard Gotlieb Damlier wrote to his wife in which he drew the star atop a house and said that one day a similar star would hang above his factory to symbolize prosperity. His sons adopted it and actually registered two designs, a 3 pointed star and a 4 pointed one. Only the 3 pointed one was ever used. When the company merged with Benz, the star was wrapped in benz's laurel crest logo, creating an early version of the circled star we know today Or how the MB employee said, I start work at 7 am, lunch break at 12 and leave at 5pm.

Re: Threepointed star? Why?

...and so now I know.

Thanks plenty. Now I gotta go over to that origin-of-car-logos site and learn some more...

Edit, later: Cool place, the Gawlowski site. He missed on the Lambo logo though... Ferrucio Lamborghini was born in May... Taurus. And it pizzed off Old Man Ferrari...
