Re: RHD numbers

Certaily Peter:

according to Stuttgart, about 10% of all 460 produced were RHD.
How many 460 were produced?
Dunno. Maybe someone with the latest G book can help - it has all the numbers in detail.

To repeat what we had found out before:

All 460 convertibles, production 1979 to 1991:

460.210 230G 3.894
460.212 280GE 5.000
460.216 200GE 64 (Italy only, 200 engine for tax reasons)
460.218 230GE 2.241
460.310 240GD 5.797
460.312 300GD 10.542
460.317 250GD 95

All460 RHD convertibles. They are rarer than rare:

46021023 1981 2
46021023 1982 1
46021223 1982 1
46021223 1983 1
46021223 1984 1
46021223 1986 2
46021823 1984 4
46021823 1985 1
46021823 1986 2
46021823 1989 1
46031023 1981 1
46031023 1982 27
46031023 1983 2
46031023 1986 1
46031723 1990 1

translated:
460210 230G 3 units
460212 280GE 5 units
460218 230GE 8 units
460310 240GD 31 units
460317 250GD 1 unit
48 units in total

According to The Legend Keeps on Driving a total of 69,983 460 GWagens were made (many of them military types).

That makes some 7,000 RHD 460 GWagens, of which a good half (3,500 units) of it could have been sold as civilian types in the UK alone.

Re: RHD numbers

Just for interest here is a story you may enjoy. I have had a string of 460 RHD's - and really wanted a 460 / 461 5 door obviously also RHD. RHD 5 doors are scarce in SA. Looked for a long time and couldn't find one so I bought a slightly butchered 460 LHD (Toyota engine) 5 door two years ago and started re building it. I have nearly finished it now - did a very extensive / expensive total rebuild and converted it to RHD and 300GDT. This was a surprisingly uncomplicated job. Some trouble on the chassis and front axle requires your to sweat a bit but dash, handbrake footpedals etc was easy. I have not put in the wiring harness yet and the more I procrastinate the more this job frightens me!

So Stuttgart - its almost 7001 RHD's in your impressive arsenal.

Incidentally late last year a 2001 461 290 turbodiesel, full service history, low km RHD dream car came onto the market and I got it! Man it is fun! I suppose the argument starts with my wife about who gets the auto box.

Re: RHD numbers

Just seen on the above list from Harald - here is a picture of one of the 27 RHD 460 310 convertibles from 1982. It was a 240D and I replaced it with a 300D about two years back. It has low speed diffs (5.33:1) and in tandem with the 300 motor and 235 85 16 BFG MT's it is unstoppable.

In the brown hat is the unstoppable Amzimmy with Bier on his left.
