stationary vortex generator that fits inside your air intake tube?????

Has anyone played with this?

Can it really work?

Seems like snake oil to me!

The Mileage Maxx Vortex Generator is much less expensive than any turbocharger or supercharger. Its proven design increases horsepower while lowering fuel costs, and is backed with a 30-day money back guarantee AND a lifetime guarantee.

Better Gas Mileage: The Mileage Maxx allows your engine to burn fuel more efficiently, resulting in mileage gains as high as 31%. With gas prices constantly on the rise, it will pay for itself in no time.

More Power: Whether you have a stock or aftermarket air intake system, you will see a power increase of up to 35 horsepower.

Smoother Shifting: Vehicles with an Automatic Transmission will shift smoother than before

Re: stationary vortex generator that fits inside your air intake tube?????

I have observed them to work with minimal gain. They're hyped up quite a bit, but they do provide some small benefit.

A company called Turbo Fuel Miser make them with a small propeller on a bearing, a Turbo Diesel Landcruiser that I know of swallowed the propeller and destroyed the engine. Fuel Miser paid for the rebuild.

RE: stationary vortex generator that fits inside your air intake tube?????

I think that the actual gain of the product for most real world applications can be decifered from the carful wording of the advertisement... "milage gains AS HIGH AS 31%" "power increase of UP TO 35 hp". Not saying that it couldn't help some, but it is the equivelent of putting a 12V hairdryer without the heating coil in your intake (which I tried back in Highschool, didn't help much on the 280S Benz). I'd say that the smaller the engine, the bigger the gain since it doesn't take as much volume of air to run a 1.6L 4 cyl as it does to run a v8 MB engine.

Cheers,
Ben

Roughneck, snake oil is a term used here for a product described to "do wonders", "cure-all" etc etc., often with no scientific results and sold at a premium price over a generic product that essentially has the same ingredients, composition and will produce similar results or does nothing above and beyond not using the product at all.

Snake oil was the wonder medicine of the Old (Wild) West believed to cure just about everything.

Re: stationary vortex generator that fits inside your air intake tube?????

Popular Mechanics in SA ran an article on all of those whirlgigs and also concluded that they are Clark and Stanley's Snake Oil Liniment.

One just wonders how any of these wonder gizmos always manage to elude the best automotive engineers that are employed by for eg. Daimler Chrysler. Why also does the inventor of the "Turbo Gullet" not just prove it and sell it for a large wadge of cash to Daimler Chrysler?

Harald - has anyone you know ever suffered from the abovementioned "Contracted Cords" ?!

While on about vortex's etc do a Google on Vortex tubes. They are really interesting compressed air gizmos that you can make at home that will give you hot air out of one side and freezing air out the other.

There was a write up in motor trend or car and driver about tis product and that smokey mountan radar jammer. Afther they tested both of them neither one worked at all. when they contacted the manifacture to tell them there results they said well you all did the test wrong and its your word against ours...

Now the little rings you put infornt of the throttle body to ad 15-20 hp usually work, but they only make them for fords and chevys.

Re: stationary vortex generator that fits inside your air intake tube?????

Interesting side note on snake oil. In the USA snake oil was recognized as charlatanry (?word). In the 1930's the US government got involved and recognized there was no formal way to regulate the separation of the citizenry from their hard earned cash through the purchase of this gimicry. So after much debate at the congressional level, the predecessor to the FDA was formed BUT (and this is the kicker), it was formed under the auspices of the Interstate Commerce Committee (where it continues to reside to this day) as the mandate for regulation was drawn from the an federal, INTER state issue and not an INTRA state issue. This was because the peddlers of this potion would travel from state to state selling their wares at carnies and door to door. In fact, to this day, the non commercializing of health care products outside of the state of manufacture remains a sticky wicket in regulatory oversite. There was also mother in North Carolina 8 years ago who developed a test for drug use using the locket of hair from the child and she marketed this INTERSTATE as a medical device. The locket of hair would then be cut from an individual's head (marketed to parents to assess the drug profile of their child). The FDA got involved under its authority and declared the glasene envelope used to tranport the lock of hair as a regulatable medical device as it was transported across state borders. In essence, if snake oil was manufactured in only NY and sold in NY this would probably fail to allow the formation of FDA today. Sorry for the diatribe but if one goes to the FDA today there is acutally a wall of potions and pills, and gadgets that they site as the basis for their regulatory largesse.

Snake oil is a very important part of US history.

just visit Google images and you'll see amazing stuff:

How about I strap some magnets to my fuel line - "energize" it and get plenty of extra HP? Or do I save 20% of fuel that way? I am sure, its both!
I might be on to something. If you would all support my claim (you get a kickback of course) I might get rich. Avoid the feds by shipping it out of Mexico.
And dare onyone of you calling it snake oil! Everyone knows that magnets have power that never goes away.

Harald -

FDA has a device that they seized that is a set of magnets for the head that was supposed to remove all headaches. Nothing has changed in 75 years.

Re: stationary vortex generator that fits inside your air intake tube?????

i did my senior exit project on this. almost all gas fuel increasers usually showed a decrease in fuel mileage. they count on people to "feel" the differnence as opposed to acutally looking at their mpg. i can post up my paper if u want.
