Side mirrors and blinkers

on my 03 G, the clear lens for the side mirror blinker has a tiny crack in it, it very hard to notice (1cm verticle), so i really wouldnt care, however, on humid days, i see moisture inside the housing... and one thing i learned in my electrical engineering courses that water + electronics = bad... so, id like to replace it before the LED leads or any circuitry in there corrodes/shorts. To get the old lens out, i figure i need to remove the mirror glass and access from there, right? i dont have a drawing of it, and i really dont want to break the mirror... since they are like.. $300 each (MB broke my pass mirror last month, but they paid). If anyone has a diagram of it i would feel better tugging on it...

PS. if i wanted to be ghetto fabulous... what if i waited until it dried again, then plut a clear coat over the crack?

thanks!
Michael

I have the workshop instructions for my ML, which is probably similar; and you're right about removing the mirror glass first.

I'll be back later this week, and can send you a copy.

RE: Side mirrors and blinkers

I don't remember noticing how the turn signals were mounted behind the mirror glass.

But, I do remember how to remove the glass:

Tilt the mirror all the way down.

Use a 90 degree pick to pop two of the clips on the top center of the mirror back. the mirror falls out in your hand.

Installing was simple, firmly snap into place.

If you looking for an added degree of safety, consider installing the aspherically curved Euro version of the driver side mirror. It virtually eliminates blind spot.

Part number A463 8101616 - costs around $130.
