| Trip planned, CO to NorCal
Hi friends, I'll be heading out Wednesday April 25th following I70 into Utah then US50 through Nevada and Cal 20 to the Mendocino National Forest and "Cedar Camp" therein to meet some friends. I'll be looking to make cedar camp the afternoon of the 27th, and then setting out from there to return home, leaving on Sunday the 29th, and being back in Bailey on Tuesday. Anybody near by want to meet? -Dave G. |

That camp, as per Mendo USFS is only open from June 15th onward.
so make sure! it is usually gated shut. I ride my dirtbike up there pretty often.
however,
You can camp at Letts Lake, which is quite nice, about 3 miles before you get there as of April 15th. Its on the same road.

Is that a Coleman stove with the coffe pot on it? You like it? I cant choose between the Coleman petrol burner and a similar one only propane fueled...
Fluid is more compact than gas but I can fit a big (10liter) propane tank in the back anyways and it will last for ages BUT then again, the fluid one is more heat efficient and not prone to leaks unless you spill and then it will be potentially more dangerous then a gas leak and so on and so on. And does the wife like the color... |

nice rugged cabrio you have there mike  what tyres do you run on  they look like 33's at least
i have just had a hardtop fitted to my G as well,i think they are not ther same though.do you have more pics so i can compare. my hardtop seems to have a raised area above the front seats where a sunroof would go.

Let's plan on it. I am also thinking of taking time off to visit friends in Redding/Eureka, so if you want a another G to tag along part ways over the Sierras PM me closer to departure....otherwise a visit as you pass my parts would be cool. My calculations put you through my parts evening of the 26th....if you want a place to crash before the last 6.5 hours to the coast let me know as well.

Cheryl eventually got fed up with the fact you can't "really" cook on the little stoves like that, so now I haul one of these: https://secure.lodgemfg.com/storefront/products1.asp?idDept=1426&menu=range The side benefit is that once you commit to hauling LPG, a world of possibilities open up along the lines of hot water availability (washing, bathing,etc) Even camping with my buddies, where breakfast used to be an "eat in shifts" affair trying to cook and keep warm food on the little Coleman, now I just throw a monster cast iron griddle on top of those two 20k BTU burners, and cook up eggs, bacon, sausage, and French toast all at once. Very nice. "We don't travel light, but we eat good" is not such a bad calling card to travel by. :cheers: -Dave G. |

Gee Dave, that wouldn't be too far for me either....cept that the G's interior is in about a thousand pieces right now and it's doubtful I'll be cruising again before your trip. As well, Cleo had our second boy (Niko) 8 weeks ago so every single freakin minute of my life is all about the chillins....almost (slight exageration but that is what the weak and tired mind tends toward).
Mr. Serpe, if you didn't know, is headed right for the same state of mind.
I sure would like to meet up with you. I may have to wait for the next opportunity.
I've been trying to make it up to Dai's for a long time. That could be the ticket. Craig did it, and I'm sure he'd do it again. Something to ponder.
