My '05 G500 (graphite/black)

Hello everyone -

I'm trying to get my photos so you can see...

Here we are in our 'new' G500 on the day we bought our Northern CA DeLorme topo atlas/gazeteer (thanks, Harald, for the tip -- we've already bookmarked some places we want to go...is Spider Lake still closed?)

We don't as yet have the personalized plates, which will not come for 8+ weeks. We ordered the nice photo of Yosemite's Half Dome, and the plate name will be Ganisha, honoring the (Hindu) God of tough passages, given well need all the help we can get.

So far, I am learning the implications of the G's turning circle (life is a buch of U-turns around here). Having expected little in the way of gas economy, I was pleasantly surprised to run at 15 MPG on my freeway trip instead of the 13 I'd been led to expect (or did I have a tailwind both ways?).

Major accomplishment so far has been getting the (jammed) 2nd row center headrest out to improve the visibility. Don't worry, I won't be seating anyone there, and its absence is a great improvement.

I read the cool article today in Mercedes Enthusiast (3/07) about the Gs that support the Paris to Beijing 'E-class Experience' run.

Looks nice.. I like that color too... dont think i have ever seen one like that.

As for mpg.. you if you stay under 70 mph you get grate milage. 70+ it drops a lot. 80-90 mph you dont even want to ad it up

I am sooooo jealous. Looks like you scored well. I absolutely love the color. Dont worry, you will get used to turning....or enjoy the ride and just drive around the block to get where you are going.

Love the graphite!

Any interest in selling the headrest?

anyone know the colour code? Like it alot but i'm not sure it would look as good on a 460 as it does on the 463. Anyway like it a lot. A real beauty!:)

Congratulations. One of my favourite G colours. Guess you'll need the space in there if you want to carry a Gamelan ensemble.... (interesting by the way - have been fascinated by both Gamelan and Baroque)

For the headrest just pull it out about half way and then very strongly pull it out the rest of the way. I find it easier when you have a bit of a run up to pull it out.

i think its called "cubanite silver" or the latter name "travertine beige" or the classic name "smoke silver".

Linda, Spider Lake is still closed. But it would be ultra cool to see you galls up there sporting your G!

Happy trails.

Thanks for the scoop on getting the headrest out. The hardest part was dehypnotizing ourselves so that we stopped thinking there was some kind of secret release somewhere. Once we started the dedicated hauling, :banghead: it came loose pretty fast. Next time we'll try the run up method

As for hauling gamelans and harpsichords, I haven't even thought of it! But you are right, *something* will be able to fit.

So you are fortunate to be right in prime gamelan and Baroque playing country. There is an active group at South Bank Centre, and London Baroque and lots of other groups doing historically-informed performance. My main performer connection in London is the Baroque/Classical violinist Monica Hugget. We have recorded together and made quite a few concerts.

 Cheers,

   Linda

RE: My '05 G500 (graphite/black)

Linda,

vehicle access to Spider Lake has been closed for a a couple of years now. You can still walk over from the Rubicon Trail. I would not drive a stock height G500 with 18" wheels there. Would not even take my 500 on 295/75R16 there.
