Interior Overhead Light ....

I noticed last night that the overhead interior light is not comming on when the drivers door is open, even though the switch is in the correct position and the light will turn on manually.
I looked through my info and I cannot find any diagrams on this.
Anyone know where I can find this info?

RE: Interior Overhead Light ....

Is it only the drivers door not activating it ? If the other doors DO activate the light, than process of elimination would lead to the driver door contact switch.

This happens when the truck sits up for awhile I've noticed. I cleaned the contacts and that helps.

Mine did the same. It was just a bad contact. I reseated the bulb and it worked.

Re: Interior Overhead Light ....

You are talking about my BIGGEST peeve with my 280, my cargo area lamp will not come on when the switch is in the door position but works just fine when switched on. Hell of a lot of good it does at 5:30am trying to get the dog, your gun etc out of the back of the car... Dog is already out of the car and nearly taken you out by the time you are able to hit the switch.

...and I always thought there was something wrong with mine as it too only works when switched and not with any of the doors' contacts.
Now I have to ask if that was what the original question was? I assumed we were talking about the light over the dash near the windscreen.

As I remember, there was no door switch/button in the rear cargo door or in the rear passenger doors of my 1984 280GE. Ergo, no automatic lights on when the door was opened. One of the first mods I did to the truck was to put some button switches in those door frames so that the lights would come on when the doors were opened.

If Burqudoka would look, I think he'll see some scratches around those switches where my tools slipped when making the mounting holes.

RE: Interior Overhead Light ....

Well, I did check the switch, but I first checked the passenger door to see if it activated the center front overhead light when it opened. Nope, as luck would have it, that side did not turn the light on either. An sure enough the light does turn on when the overhead switch is repositioned to the left side. That clears a burned out lamp.
The lamp originally worked only when it was dark outside as I best remember.
One of the photocells in the windshield must have some connection to this circuit as it never worked in the daylight. That windshield was replaced a year or so ago.
Oh well, anyone got that schematic???
