I'm sure as civillian markets follow the current trends towards lighter, smaller, greener vehicles, military and commercial markets must retain well constructed, relatively simple and reliable transport. I think that is what in realty is appending, it’s becoming more and more a military, fire, specific commercial use and an exclusive car for same people whit money and Mercedes doesn’t wont it to go more than that because the trend is shifting. I don’t think the Ill axe it immediately but eventually.

I'll say it again...When Magna buys Chrysler, they will also get the G rights in the deal from Daimler and continue production. I told the salesguy I thought something was wrong with the automatic transmission. He drove it and said it's fine. I said with all this torque the first/second shift should be neck snapping, but instead it was soft and impotent. He said our demographics show this is what our customers want. Then he told me, and I swear this is true: "you seem more like a BMW guy - why don't you go there and look for a car". never in 33 years of car buying have I heard a salesguy say this. The rest, as they say, is history. Steve 00 M5 02 G500 98 E320 76 930 (sale pending) Edited by UberXY 4/15/2007 12:33 PM

Whit the new CO2 taxes all over Europe it’s becoming extremely expensive to buy and maintain these types of cars. I’m guessing Mercedes believes there is no future in this class. Whit governments taxing so much these cars and tax brakes for farmers, building related jobs … ending in most of Europe including Germany. Well, that's not what I see... sales of SUV's particularly of the high-end luxury gas guzzlers continues to grow in Spain. It seems that the more you taxe them, the more Cayennes, Touaregs, X5s, MLs, etc you see

It seems that the more you taxe them, the more Cayennes, Touaregs, X5s, MLs, etc you see I don’t contest that, it’s also appending In Portugal I just think that the G has this weight problem that comes whit this type of quality and resistance. I also see these car sales increasing (Cayennes, Touaregs, X5s, ML, GLs…) they offer more luxury and more power same times better fuel efficiency for the same price or less. I see less and less persons that buy in this segment whit interest for the G and the working person that appreciates the hi-quality and robustness of the G is not “interested” in paying all of these taxes or in the luxury items that are coming to the car. In my opinion the real market is in the W461 whit a tax friendly engine. I love the car, I drive a G every time I have a chance and the only reason I don’t have one is that In the Portuguese context is very difficult to get one (€€€). I which production to last at least until the fuel cell are around, than Mercedes doesn’t have an excuse to stop production.
