Re: and the G owner thread was going so well...

VCR, I got a shiver as I scrolled down and before I saw the picture of the stairs, I thought for a moment that I had my network connection up at home. All I could think was OH SH%* work is following me home. Out plotter/scanner was down today, I had to make photocopies of 30x42 plans in 4 parts today and then jigsaw them together with tape...

That is the reason why the other technicians in Portugal think all Architect are nuts, puzzles whit photocopies, model build whit strange materials and of course the classical "project designed in a paper napkin"

VCR, what kind of Architects do you have in your parts of the woods?

We Architects are well mannered, precise, simple, organized, diligent, always on time, LOOOVE details, we say what we mean, accommodating, pedantic, obstreperous, forgiving, we can draw on walls, doors, floor screeds, with marker pen draw noughts and crosses on tiles and painted walls, great capability in interpreting building jargon, mathematicians, getting on with all the people in a project, (especially interior decorators), marriage consultants, divorce arbitrators, knowledgeable in all fields and just perfect in issuing payment certificates to clients and taking away money from Contractors! In simple words we are Impeccable!

Love the divorce and marriage consultants bit. I actually had same clients that started arguing in a meeting to define the programme for there house and left the meeting running and screaming …eventually they divorced. It was just after I left university and I have to admit I was still too young to manage a thing like that.

Yep....Have been there many times, got some T-Shirts as well! The bothering matter is that they get counselling for nothing, and one can not even charge a fee for it!

I must admit that loved to arrive site with my G, open the side awning, take out the easy-chairs and table and start the site meeting in the shade

RE: and the G owner thread was going so well...

I have a friend that was working on a $80+ million dollar residential project (yes you read that right!) where the wife would scream and yell at the contractors/ designers, fire them and such but my friend was the only one she liked, so even the husband was using him to reason with the wife. In the middle of the job they got divorced and he remarries and the new wife comes in and tears out all of the stuff the former wife choose! Talk about being in the middle

The worst is when the project is just cancel, lots of work to do the program and preliminary study and in the end nothing appends…

At least I see that it appends all over the world, I wonder if a psychology and marital advice should be on the university curriculum.

I’m so happy that I’m only doing public work at the moment; one of the projects I’m doing is a cemetery, really nice “clients” :-)

Then there is public work - we won a Europan a while back and have been trying to get the project built. Funding is in place through EU but each time we are due to make progress they hold an election, change gov't and we have to start all over again with new people...

If someone can reduce this picture and place it in the thread, that would be great. (see above post and attachment)

Re: and the G owner thread was going so well...

An RFI stands for REQUEST FOR INFORMATION. Generally it is sent by a Subcontractor, to the General Contractor and then to the Architect. However, I've had the architect send me an RFI to help clarify the RFI I sent them.
