Photos from Moab

Hi folks,

here are some photos from my recent trip to Moab:

http://socalastro.com/moab07/

These are from the the Thompson Valley area, Klondike Bluffs, and some from Posion Spider Mesa.
I stopped short of the Weggie section at Poison Spider Mesa. Seeing the Jeep in front of me slide 10 inches towards the wall in a 1/4 of a second did not help my nerves :-)
Most of the Jeep folks at the trail were amazed that I was even attempting to go on that trail. I think with more experience and a good spotter, the G can traverse that trail with no problems.

I also did lots of other trails in the area, without taking any additional photos. I was too concerened about a small leak I had developed in power steering cooler from having tweaked my front bumper earlier in the trip. I have yet to take a closer look at it, maybe this coming weekend.

Peace,
Leon

RE: Photos from Moab

Dutch,

i had a mechanic in Moab take a closer look at it; he said it was PS fluid and that it was a slow drip. I cannot confirm if it IS in fact PS or Transmission fluid. My initial suspecion was that it was Tranmission fluid, which really worried me as I had an 800mile return trip back to LA :-)

RE: Photos from Moab

Thanks for sharing.  Springtime really is magical out there.  The deep greens against the red rocks are really spectacular in a way that lots of folks never get to to see.

Hard to tell a PS leak from a trans leak as they're the same fluid most of the time.  Have to ID the source.  I know the 463 has a trans cooler in the front bumper, but they might have a PS cooler too.  The latter would look more like a long piece of round tubing, where the former is like a little rectangular radiator.

RE: Photos from Moab

If it's coming from the radiator mounted behind the bumper, it's transmission fluid.

The PS cooler is a pipe mounted much higher that zigzags in front of the A/C condenser behind the grill.

Leon,

Some great shots you have there! Thanks for sharing.

What would be the shortest route for me to get to your playground

RE: Photos from Moab

Klaus, Rick, and Frank,

thanks for the comments. It is really beautiful this time of year. I wish to go again in a couple of weeks if I can get away from work :-) Otherwise I will wait until the fall.
Summers are pretty hot in Moab.

regards,
Leon

Leon, looks like that was an incredible trip. Seriously, you should email some of those pics of your G on that bluff to somebody in marketing at MBUSA. Want to sell a Gwagen??? Put THAT on the website.

Oh I know - have driven across most of Canada (except Newfoundland). But have never had the pleasure of doing it in a G.

Re: Photos from Moab

Max and Rhino,

Thanks for the nice comments about trhe pics. I'm not sure if DC would want to bother with my amateur photos

Dutch,

I'd love to have 2-3 years off and go exploring the NA continent in a G myself :-)
Maybe when I get a diesel G perhaps.

Peace,
Leon
