Rust on a 4 year old truck YAY 4 me!

SO, my right rear 1/4 panel showing some signs of rust on the weld joint, even though I am not original owner, will Benz stand behind it?

Why Benz why???????????????

As fair as I know and as I can tell, I don't see any body work on it at all.

Virtually every 463 I have ever seen in Europe had rust there after 2-3 years including my own. Particularly the right rear as you have indicated. My left side is fine.

Wonder if it has anything to do with the fuel filler being on that side.

RE: Rust on a 4 year old truck YAY 4 me!

As i said before, my dealer fixed my various rust issues under the star mark warranty (even though its not REALLY covered). They paint the front bumper and two mirror mounts. My G is a 2003 G500....

My fathers 2002 270 CDi (also silver) rusts there too! It's going in for a warrianty repair this spring, covering this spot on both sides, in the weld joint on the sills where the rear fender flare meets up, and also under the windshield. Seems like paint was better before!

Even if DC/MBZ (or whom ever) covers that fix, you are only buying time. It will come back and keep coming back- especially in that spot. The only thing you can do is stay on top of it and stay on top of it ASAP. Get a fine sanding tool and a small bottle of touch paint from the dealer- the fingernail type bottle with the applicator brush. Inspect those problem areas when you wash your car or have free time and TCB.

Good luck my friend.

RE: Rust on a 4 year old truck YAY 4 me!

the human body is the greatest creation in the world and even that has incurable problems!!

what chance has a piece of metal got? as for merc warranties etc, that a load of rubbish most of the time.so best thing is to find a good body shop and get it treated before it gets worse.at least you will increase the life span of the affected area.

but hey what the heck....! look around you cherish your loved ones.

everything else is just material.

(sorry to bore you guys, its just the mood i'm in right now )

Maybe your G500 caught it from being parked to close the 280GE?

Re: Rust on a 4 year old truck YAY 4 me!

as for the floor rust, why is it so common (what is the cause?) and how to prevent it? the floorboards in my g are covered by the original rubber mats and i haven't yet peeked underneath to see what is going on.

cheers,
dd

Re: Rust on a 4 year old truck YAY 4 me!

My '02's both had the rear repainted under warranty. Much rusting at:
Both front mirror stanchions
Rear midline seam extending down
Rear hinges

Now my '99 has NOTHING. My 14 month old 55 has NOTHING.

I think that all '02's should be recalled by MBUSA. We should be offered new vehicles and Jorgen Shermp or whoever should apologize for the dilution of a once great marque. They were clearly not ready for the market. They should truly be ashamed and we should warn as many prospective buyers so that they are not burned. I am truly sorry for those of us that had or have '02's but I was one and would not allow someone else to suffer through the quality issues for ANY price. As always this is all JMHO.
Buy a '99 or '00.

Leaky wiper seals and drain hoses leaking, both cause water to leak and pool under the carpet or matting.

Re: Rust on a 4 year old truck YAY 4 me!

Many of the 97-98-99-00's I've seen that's gone through norwegian winter with snow/salt slush looks just as bad! IMO these are weak points of the G, no matter year, 460 or 463.
