If you start to laugh explosively with a mouth full of food or beverage, you might spray it all over your keyboard or monitor. Ahh now it all makes sense - I read the "don't go there" as don't visit the G in person with a mouth full of food.... hence the confusion. But yes a wise caution...

terent1 Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: Anyone know this G? Hello, I am the owner of this G and I wanted everyone to know a few things about it. Yes, It did leak last year and I disclosed that. This leak did cause very minor discoloration in the back carpet, which is pictured. There are several reasons that we believe this roof was done at the factory. Although the size of the roof is not typical. The sunroof rework was done by Fred Lane in Franklin, NC. Fred has done work, for over 35 years, on some very famous cars. He had to have one custom ordered from Germany to work. Anyone interested to speaking to him can email me or call him in Franklin. He has specialize in custom work and tops for over 35 years. His point was the the roof system was integrated into the top and the way the steal was shaped and wrapped he believed it was factory work. Regarding the serial and title. The door stamp and paperwork indicate that Richard S Poole ( I am not sure if this is a person or deal or both) imported in 1985. Europa internation had this serial number in thier system as an import BEFORE I purchased the G from Colorado. You can call them today and refrence this serial and I am happy to provide an inventory of receipts to show that this is the case. I am an honest person and believe in FULL DISCLOSURE. I am not very good at writing ads so if anyone has questions about this G or would like to have me fax documentation, PLEASE EMAIL ME!. P.S.- I worked hard to restore this G wagon and have spent FAR more than the auction will bring. I REALLY want someone to be happy with and enjoy this wagon as we have...

No question about it. Take a look at this ad currently being run by a used car dealer in Canada. http://www.dwaycar.com/1991%20300GE.html Scroll down to the section on "Famous Owners". Where do you think he got that data? WARNING!! Do not go there with any food or beverage in your mouth! Funny, I thought the same thing when I first saw the add. I can never really understand why people list famous owners and make you feel like because they own one, then you should. Whatever happened to functionality? For those that are interested, I have actually went out to see this truck and it seems decent but a little rough around the edges (interior and he said that parts were on order from Eurotruck) and I thought that it did not drive that smooth or as smooth as I first would have imagined. Then again my experience in driving G's is very limited. But I recall Maxwell Smart once telling me that a G should be smoother to drive than A LR DII and I found this not to be be true.. at least with mine that is. Plus I was turned off by a few other selling tactics but that is just me.

Plus I was turned off by a few other selling tactics but that is just me. That I did. I had driven a demonstrator Disco when I was contemplating buying one - the Defender wasn't practical enough for my needs. Now not being a LR guy I have no idea if it was a Disco II or a Disco 5764... all I know is it was the year they were changing the headlights and LR was taking orders for either model. At the same time I thought I would take a look at Gs which I had admired from afar for a long time. I found the 10 yr old G to be much tighter feeling both in steering and shifting. It also shifted much smoother and the engine..... Both were standard shift and diesel. I also should point out that the G was a 463. Having since driven a few 460s I would say that maybe a Disco drives a little smoother in that instance....

Sorry, I should clarify the G that I looked at was the 463 from the Dwayne car that had also been mentioned and not the 460 from the ebay auction. Chris

They changed the headlights for the 03 year so I would say that the ride would be no different than my truck. Just for the sake I was comparing my 01 Disco II to the Dwaynecar add which is a 91 463 swb. The auto trans seemed to shift alright and yes the engine was smooth but the ride itself was less than desirable...perhaps replacing the suspension would solve this?

In which case it might be the G you drove - not a fair comparison I know but my current auto transmission is smooth as silk. But the other big issues is while we both drove approximately the same car (you a 91 SWB and me a 92 SWB) - when I drove it it would have been a 10 year old G. By the sounds of it, by the time you drove it, you were driving a 16 year old G! I would suspect that this would be a large factor as well...

DUTCH - 4/23/2007 6:40 PM Merz-Ben - 4/23/2007 8:17 PM I know somewhere Harald mentioned that individuals could import late model vehicles themselves in the 80's, that is probably why it has an odd importer listed. I imported my 84 280GE myself; although I don't remember any tags on the truck with my name on them. BurqueDOKA? What say you, since you now have the truck? Dutch, no tags at all w/ your name on it on the 280. No import tags at all for that matter, just a couple vin plates. -James
