460 electrical problems

I am trying to save time so I hope that one of you have had a problem like this before. My clock works intermittently as well as my hazard switch. I have replaced the battery which was close to the end of it's working life. I have checked the earthing and everything seems fine. I have also replaced the hazard switch to make shure. The other thing is that my radio on switching it on needs the code to be put in (also on a intermittent basis) which tells me that there is a complete loss of current. My car is a 1989 230GE. I have no starting problems and my lights and indicators work fine. I also know that the indicators is on the same circuit as the hazards and the radio from what I have traced.

Any imput will be welcome
Regards

RE: 460 electrical problems

Had similar problems once and could not find the cause .
Eventually, I rerouted directly from the dash board a new earth, tighten all the fuse brass clamps, and ......voila....... all was working again.
I hope that some of the "Technical Brains" in the forum will give you a better advise!

RE: 460 electrical problems

For what its worth, I had the same problem w/my 460. The clock and the hazards are on the same fuse. My problem was fixed by using an emery board on the fuse-board contacts and then putting in a new fuse. If you have not already, start from that fix and work backwards.

Hope this helps in some way.

It is without doubt an earthing problem, you have to work systematicaly through the loom and clean refit tighten all ground points.

RE: 460 electrical problems

Start with the bolt inside the dash with about a million brown wires attached to it.
I just cleaned all of the copper fuse contacts and suddenly discovered I have electric door locks! never knew before!
Good luck! You're not alone.

Thanks guys. I found the problem to be poor contacts in the fusebox.

RE: 460 electrical problems - CRC 2-26

It is a good idea to move the fuses periodically to ensure full contact. Our climate is damp with dry periods only occuring in summer.

I have found on my other Mercedes vehicles the need to periodically check one or another of the fuses for poor contact. I have used an electrically contact enhancing spray on these contact points helps solve these issues, especially on the trailer end of that electrical connection. CRC lubriacant No. 02004 - Covered in warnings about small children ingesting, it is plastic-safe and has lots of electrical contact uses. www.crcindustries.com

Re: 460 electrical problems

Also check and lubricate the connectors inside the engine compartment as well as the connectors out of the tow bar electrics socket, they are all connected and little bit of WD-40 will go a long way
