Hello, I am trying to import g350 from Germany to Canada, and salesman saing that g350 1992 has 280.000km with manual transmission. Problem is I have never heard of 603 engine to be used with manual tranny, and i have search internet forums and i found info that g350 never had manual so now i am confused is it fake or a good deal ?

Beings that I have a G350 and have done a lot of research there was NEVER one with manual trans, The said that due to the torque of the engine the automatic trans that they put in was a lot stronger and was less apt to fail.
Second, get the vin # that will tell you just what it is.

RE: buying g350, very suspicius....

I too would be very suspicious, like the others have said, no g350 came from the factory that way. BUT I guess that it is possible that some innovative German somehow came up with a manual trans for it, so out of curiosity I'd ask for detailed interior pictures of the truck (like in the pedal area and center console) and make sure you get pictures of the interior with the door sills showing so you can tell if it is the interior of the truck they are "selling".

Cheers,
Ben

The 350GDT was launched late in 1992 (MY 1993). Then the name was changed to G350GDT in 1994.

Either way, still too new to import into Canada as it has to be 15 years from the date of manufacture.

If its date of manufacture then he might just be ok. I think MB stamps the date as when the body was fabricated - not went the vehicle was assembled. For example I have a MY 2000 sold and registered in late 1999 but my date of manufacture if I remember correctly is listed as January 1999 or something quite early in the year.

Yes, of course checking with MB is best to determine this. I believe it is required to determine the Actual date for the importation process so it would be just a matter of time anyways. I am still doing my home work on this matter in my free time and hoping something pops up in my own backyard first.

However, another great reference is the registar of imported vehicles http://www.riv.ca/ if this has not been checked already.

Re: buying g350, very suspicius....

A 1989 could be still a W460. The W463 had the 603 motor, and they were nade both with auto and manual gearbox.

If it was a 1989 300 GD then it's surely a 460, powered by the OM617.

Unless, of course that it is not a 300GD but a 250GD, in which case it may well be 1989 and it's powered by the OM602.

Or it is a 1990, in which case it would be a W463 OM603-powered 300GD.

Or it could be a pre-production W463, made in 1989, basically a W460 bodywork bolted on a W463 chassis, engine and drivetrain.

BUT GIVEN THE INACCURATE REPORTS GIVEN, I WOULD DEFINITELY STAY AWAY FROM IT!

RE: buying g350, very suspicius....

Harald,

I think that the ad shown was just an example by Mortinson of what a 603 powered truck with 460 body would be.
I could be mistaken though.

Cheers,
Ben

Re: buying g350, very suspicius....

Ben,

you are right, the ad has nothing to do with the original question and nothing to do with the change of question to '89 300GD with 602 engine.
Guess we should start over or lay it to rest.

Harald.

That ad is about 1 1/2 years old. I posted it just to illustrate the last possibility I was talking about.
