Though I have no overheating issues what so ever I wanted to upfit one more thing, The clutch fan. My turbo engine like most came with the 6 blade aluminum fan. Well back in the 80's I remembered seeing the later 617s come with a 9 blade plastic fan. I did a some more research and found that the 9 blade is a direct bolt on replacement for the 6 blade fan. And it will fit both turbo diesels and naturally asperated diesels. I found one in a recycling yard swapped it out with mine and discovered a couple of things. IT"S QUIETER! and the temp needle stands a bit lower on the gauge. You guys with heating issues with your diesels or if you want to quiet things down should upgrade to this fan. 4 bolts to take the fan and clutch off and 4 to remove the old fan. Side note: If your clutch is not working properly now is the time to replace it. (you can test you fan clutch's funtionality by after a good run in your G, bringing it up to temperature with the engine running take an old rubber radiator hose and try to stop the fan by sticking one end of the hose in its path. BE CAREFUL If the fan stops then the clutch is working properly if not then the engine is wasting energy turning the fan full time). Anyway have a look at the attached photos. Staying cool in the south. Mark my '85 has the plastic 9-bladed fan........2 of the blades are set slightly farther apart, enabling to to get ur wrench past them, when u have to unbolt the vacuum pump...... EDIT: oh yeah, in the summer months, i "hotwire" my electric auxilary cooling fan to run all the time, by pluuging a blade fuse onto the connector......problem is, over time, the battery gets drained, as that fan sucks power, and isnt meant to be on all the time....... BenzDieselTuner Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Re: One Cool Diesel the fan always turns a bit, from momentum, but you should be able to easily stop it.......when the motor is cold, it should spin freely when u turn it, and when its hot, it should tighten up, and be hard to spin by hand......

Let me tell you I LOVE IT In the morning it gets up to temp in about 2 mins. IT then stays between 80 and 90C I was stuck in traffic in 85 F heat for about 20 mins. It never went above 90. As soon as I got going it went to 80. The nice thing about the evens is everywhere on the motor things are the same temp. There are no hot spots. And if you take the cap off the radiator there is no SPLUSH... The pressure is a lot lower. Just my thoughts so far.

G350DT Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Re: One Cool Diesel No waterless as in it runs a non water based coolant, there is liquid just no water. Cool stuff An Evans Cooling System is an internal combustion engine cooling system using a substantially water free coolant! This coolant is Non-Aqueous Propylene Glycol

G350DT Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Re: One Cool Diesel Correct your whole system should never boil but the things that attracted me were one, the low pressure, two, the fact that you can not get spot boiling or uneven heating/cooling. That was one of the major problems with the 350 engine. It is great so far. I love the low pressure I show people when I stop and get out of it at full temp and take the cap off no PUSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHH Nice stuff man

Posts: 686 | Re: One Cool Diesel so did you do the conversion yourself, it stresses in the pdf downloads its very important that you get all water out with an evans flush liquid or you could damage the engine, also did you need to change or throw away the thermostat ? one other question, how much does it cost, if I may be so Impertinent.

G350DT Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Re: One Cool Diesel I just had the motor of my G350 rebuilt as with the radiator. Thus no real issue with water. Also you want less then 10% water. Water will not hurt as much as having the new type coolant, that orange shit. I did not throw away my thermostat yet. They say change things AS needed. If it does not need then leave it in. The cost is not all that bad, it is $28 a gallon so for you that would be what 2 pounds haha. The exchange rate sucks for us. Anyway I stand by it, I will keep updates coming

Frans Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Re: One Cool Diesel Inkblotz, Yes would you please give the part nr. My 300GD has the tropical spec engine with the same 6 blade alum fan but without the clutch. You did so research; is the clutch the same as was fitted on the 300D's in the 123 cars? I would like to upgrade my system and fit a clutch (2nd hand from a 123), but if its not an upgrade please comment anyone! I got not heating problems only worries when driving through water.

Yes it is the same as from the 123 chassis. 81-85 617A 280 Engines: This 9 blade fan is listed for the 280 engine as well as the part number is listed as the same. The Behr clutch # for this is A0002000422 Mark Edited by Inkblotz 5/2/2007 7:58 AM

Also, I've looked into the 9 blade before but couldn't get a difinitive answer as to whether the clutch set-up operates differently from my current set-up when the 9 blade is involved, I don't want to change the process, just to get more air moving. Ideally, I'd like to install the new fan, get some more time with the heat deflecting wrap on my starter and maybe switch to the new coolant option G350 recommends and see if I don't have any more fail to start episodes.
