In MBs user hand book for the 460, they recomend removing the wading plug periodicaly to allow oil seepage to drain, they seem to expect some from the main seal. You know what the inside joke is to having a leaky LR? I have heard two possible answers. The first is it is a standard oil check. The second is that the leak is to let you know that at least you do have oil. | ||

DesertStar Expert Date registered: Apr 2006 Location: San Diego, CA USA Vehicle(s): 85-280GE/95-G320/08-G500 Posts: 2156 | RE: 280GE delay in starter engagement To sum up this thread, I have removed starter, cleaned plunger area (very dirty), drilled hole in bottom, placed cotter pin in hole so it will dance around in hole while driving keeping my hole from getting crudded up. The starter has quite a bit more pep when you turn the key with no delay...PROBLEM RESOLVED. Thanks all. On a side note, it did take a bit to remove the starter as I had to figure out the puzzle as to what extensions and unversal/swivel connectors go where for the top bolt....a big help was having enough space between exhaust and driveline to get my arm through as well as not having any heat shields installed. Installation was a snap naturally after already figuring out the puzzle during removal. The photos below show: 1. the dirty/oily starter 2. the starter by which previous owner/mechanic put hole in underside, but not bottom to allow drainage, I mad enew hole where arrow is. 3. The tools I used to remove starter hex bolts. I had a delay starting problem with my tractor that I just solved. I had to disconnect the battery to do some welding on a subframe bolted to it. When I was reconnecting the ground terminal I noticed that both the terminal and the cable end were not brite metal but dull and somewhat oxidized looking. I didn't have my handy tool to clean it up and just used a wire brush and some emery cloth to clean both connections to brite shiny metal. Spins right up. Very shiny hood you have there! -Dai | ||
