I removed boot ( was shredded ) the circlip and washer and thats as far as I could go. How do you get the piston out? BTW is there an alternative boot I can use as EPC states that boot is no longer available Peter

Cover exit with towel or similar - you dont want the piston become a projectile and hit someone. Been there, done that. It hurts.

I got th e distinct feeling that there was something positive preventing the piston coming out. Will give it another go , thanks Peter

The attached image shows what you can expect to find once you get it all apart. (IMG_5109 copy.JPG) Attachments ---------------- IMG_5109 copy.JPG (140KB - 9 downloads)

How many do you need? PM me. There is an old VW beetle boot that fits and an older Landcruiser boot that will do. Haralds remedy is the only non destructive way to remove. Try gently knocking the piston inwards before blowing - maybe the rust has bitten... The destructive ways are plenty! 1. Drill and tap into the piston and pull. 2. Drill and tap the back of the housing, knock through and fit a 3/16" plug to seal again. Etc Etc The internals are available from your Midas / Autozone Master LMB EUROSEALS RK 7.19.25 Slave LMB EUROSEALS RK 4.25.05 Rgds

If the trick with the compressed air doesn't work, there is always the possibility to press the cilinder out with a manual grease press. Take the niple off the hose of your grease press and connect it to the hydraulic line in (Most probably it will fit without any adaption). With a few strokes you can push the piston out. It worked for me. If it works, take care to remove the grease before reassembling the cilinder. wkr Wout

Disco 2 Posts: 4398 | RE: Diff lock Master cylinder Peter, I have a memory that the boot is similar/same as a 2CV brake master, my favorite tool for moving rust, soak in kero, blow/pump out. Haralds method is a good one, grease pump is more control, have fun its a satisfying job to complete.
