Disco 2 Posts: 4398 | 460 diesel Auto Box Now that I have the 300GD Auto running as sweet as a nut, the auto box is making strange noises, changes fine, pulls fine, but on deceleration and over run I get the sound as if someone is randomly tapping away at bells, If I go to neutral and coast it dissapears and it is not there on tick over or reving stationary, any one experienced this and can point me in the right direction, I figure the box has to come out any way.

I had a ticking noise that seemed to go away when I adjusted the modulator valve to allow for more vaccuum pressure. I am assuming on deceleration and idle there is lower vaccuum pressure. This is just a wild guess and may even be coincidence that after I adjusted things quieted down. Mike

After spending a lot of quality time with my auto box I'm quite sure theres nothing in it that can resonate. It is almost massive. Could there be anything close to it that shifts due to variations in torque and hits anything? Flange bolts sticking out uneven? As for bell-like resonance, the exhaust pipe comes to mind.
