My Starter Motor sometimes does not turn. Any help is appreciated. Now it turns, so I can't diagnose if power is there or not. Usually I let it sit for 30 mins and it turns without any problem. I just replaced a battery with stock Hoppeck 100Ah battery. So, the battery is not the cause. Thanks Yasu

If this is a thermal Problem, the Starter itself is the cause. If it is not thermal, try to crank in Neutral and not in park. Sometime the relaese switch causes problems.

Hope it's just a starter or switch issue. So, it'll be easy fix. I'm afraid this is some kind of module/computer issues. Yasu

Posts: 22 | Re: Engine does not start Hello Yasu, With modern cars now a days it can be difficult to give an accurate prognosis. I do not disagree with the advice of above threads but my advice to you is get a fault code print out firstly. There can be problems with the ignition switch to cause problems such as you are experiencing. Get the fault codes, take from there. It will save a lot of time too-ing and fro-ing.

Sometimes it is simply oxidation at the terminals and at the other end of the cables. Take the connections off of the battery and clean both male and female connections to bare shiny metal and reconnect with a bit of dialectric grease or other protectant to keep it that way. Remove the chassis ground connection(s) and use emery cloth/wire brush/ or a file on the cable end to get to shiny bare metal and most importantly the same on the chassis contact point. Get the paint off there and any rust or corrosion. Chase the treads there with a tap if it is a threaded captive nut and reinstall the end using a bit of anti sieze on the threads and use dialectric grease or other protectant. If you have a chassis and motor ground do the same there. Then check the voltage and make sure the battery is fully charged reading 12.5 or so volts. Sometimes it is the simple things and these problems show up in the spring after a damp winter. Cycles of moisture condensing on the metal can set up corrosion. I am using a new to me product called CorrosionX to help avoid the problem after cleaning up the usuall suspects. -Dai
