Frans Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: diesel oil pressure? According to the user manual it should be a minimum of 0.5 bar (7.2 psi) at idle speed when at operating temp. I think the max is 7 bar (101.5 psi), but this needs to be confirmed. Must say it doesn't sound funny at all, mine about similar. Are you using a mechanical or electronic gauge? (1 bar = 14.5 psi)

I have an oil pressure guage on mine it's reading is in BAR. At warm idle 2 bar ( the point .5 that Francois mentioned seams a little low and unhealthy, at speed (full throttle) 7 bar. With the high compression of these engines the oil pressure will reflect how healthy the engine is. Of all the 15 Mercedes diesels I have owned over the years this is what I have found. 1. a low reading at idle means you have some wear in the engine whether it be valves or pistons. A healthy engine is 1.5 to 2. 2. when you accelerate that needle should jump/race to the max mark on the guage, if it goes up slowly then there is a problem or just some wear. My old 240d with 450,000 finally started doing the creap up the dial thing. 3. at start-up the needle should rise quickly to or just above the min mark. (oil is cold and thicker thus more pressure) Sounds like yours is running perfectly. Mark Edited by Inkblotz 5/18/2007 8:15 AM
