I have looked through the archives of the Forum and have only seen threads about Turbo Diesels. Any experience with the concept of adding a turbo to a an M110 engine? Indiana Drew

Not a dumb question, probably my ignorance ... If I understand, its the engine in a 280GE ... In any event, to rephrase the question, has anyone ever had experience with turbo charging an early'80s 280GE?

I don't personally know of any turbo charged M110's, but the variety in the G's has lower compression than a passenger car engine, which would make it more sutable for a turbo. The worst thing will be getting the Bosch CIS fuel system to put enough fuel to keep from melting it down (or blowing head gaskets). Cheers, Ben P.S. You might want to check the 116 and 123 sedan forums and maybe the 107 convertable forum, they might have some info on turbocharging a M110. Edited by Merz-Ben 6/4/2007 10:58 AM

KERR Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Re: Turbo Charging an M110 Gas Engine??? well with any G your not going to get grate power with a turbo regardless of the motor do to no place for a intercooler.. Im sure something small could be added on with out any problems and plumbing would not be that hard... Your just going to be blowing a LOT of hot air into the moto... My fathers friend year ago had a twin turbo 300SL...

It has a specially made section in the center designed for the OM606 intercooler. Might as well use the same intercooler while you are at it. It fills the entire hollow section, making optimal use of the air flow. Air enters and exits just inboard of the bumper mounts.

Indiana Drew Correct. The G300DT (and, I think, the G55K) has the intercooler in the bumper, the rest of the recent G's have the transmission oil cooler in the bumper. There is a special bracket that holds the transmission oil cooler just below and behind the bumper. I haven't hit it yet, and I do off road with some vigor.

KERR Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: Turbo Charging an M110 Gas Engine??? ive been playing with turbo cars for years, you need bigger hole that the one in bumper for a intercooler to work well. Also you have to remember the plumbing that goes in and out. Im not saying it wouldnt work, just be very hard. If i had old diesel id look for a super charger. You want the power down low and thats what a blower is good for. To get turbos to make lots and lots of power you have to have a big one. Big turbo dont spool up well, and when they do they are hard to drive. On a old diesel that doesent revve high it would not be that fun. you will have to click to make it bigger but this is how big my intercooler is on the supra and im pushing the limites of it, this is it with bumper off..

nomad Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: Turbo Charging an M110 Gas Engine??? I heard from someone that the 2.8ltr M110 is the engine Nissan closely copied for it's 2.6ltr RB26 straight six (the engine in GTRs) and that alot of what can be done to that Nissan engine can be done to an M110 and you know you can do a hell of a lot to those Nissans
