Check the classifieds section in http://www.clubgwagen.com and you will find a few. The one in Kamloops, B.C. is a decent looking truck for starters and the best part is it is on here already. Mobile.de is also an option if you are looking for a 463 as there are very few around but then the you will have to import it it. There are a few Japanese imports available too but most appear to be gas.
Where in Canada are you? I know dutch will probably ask you to indicate this in your profile. |

Thanks for the link i have been checking that site regularly, I've seen several G-Wagens here, I am looking mostly for ones in the 6-12KCAD range, as in my opinion even mint G-Wagons from the 80's arent worth 20K plus. |

It is nice to see another Calgarian! I would have to say there are more people that I know of the are looking for a diesel G than there are examples out there but they are out there. I have been looking for awhile also but I have not been able to find anything that catches my fancy except for the Kamloops one that I had mentioned earlier on ClubGwagen. From the photos that I have seen and some chit chat with others about this vehicle, I think this has been the best one that I have seen so I would give the guy a shout. $22,500 is his price and it is low mileage too with some documentation.
You can definately import them it is just that is a little more or a process and judging from what I have seen lately on this site, you will definately want to check it out in person before buying or at least having someone you trust do so for you.

Well looking at prices lately, they have been dropping but within that price range there have been few decent ones that are not plagued with rust or other issues.
There is the one in Ottawa that is an 88 I think even though it has the barn style rear doors that is for $13000ish but from my sources they say it is very rough! |

You had better be mecanicaly inclined beacause 6-12K buys
you a project and then you will bitch and complain on this
forum and make the seller look bad. Many people have spent
more than this restauring their G. When all is done a 460 has
a second life and can give another 15-20 years of mecanical
reliability if it is a diesel.
Look at the price of a perfect BJ40 or D90 and 20K for a restored G
will look cheap, and it's a Mercedes.
Every BJ40 has been rebodied and a D90 is fragile. We expect
a Mercedes to last forever, but the typical 460 is 20 years old and
needs to be refreshed. When this is done properly you will have
the best vehicle in its class, but someone has to pay.
I have turned down 42,000 for a 87 460 with a turbo diesel and
have clients that have around 35,000 in their 460's and are
comfortable with that. Some people know what they are looking at
and what they want.

You will likely get what you pay for. In the range you are looking, there is nothing in the US that wouldn't be a salvage rig. You might find a very early one that has been imported recently but they are probably pretty beat up and worn out.
Just my opinion but, I don't think the cheap ones are worth it. Buy one that is 90% so that you can use it. Any restoration efforts are going to inflate the price you paid, and eat up the money you thought you saved in a big hurry.
G-wagens are not cheap, though nice ones can be had for $15-20k US. |

That all said, which i personally agree with... i'd rather pay more upfront, but if he's willing to deal with things such as bad motors and/or tranny, i'd say he's also potentially just the person to drag one out of trouble and bring it back to good life which people aren't always so patient to do (and there have been some good restoration projects on here and the fellows get good support in doing so)... it wont necessarily save him money but at the same time it will not require immediate outlay of cash.
Sorry, though, no tips on where to look, but you can also give Russel Leabch a call or e-mail. He usually is in the higher dollar department, but he still hears about trucks for sale so he's one more lead...

Yes I am mechanically inclined, Im currently building 2 Diesel SEC's, I just finished a body "restore" job on a 1986 hj60 diesel landcruiser. I tend to buy low, as most of the 10 mercedes i have owed have been around $1000 CAD, I regularly paint them, and buy and sell usually 3-4 times a year.
My SEC's were also "Cheap" and they took some searching and some carfull buying to find the right ones.
If i buy a gas G-Wagen, it will eventually get a OM603 or Om617 or 616 with turbo.
Id rather find a Diesel G-Wagen, then all I would have to do is install a 617 with turbo.
Im thinking about selling my landcruiser for about 7K, and I just sold my 1985 300 SD for 2.5K, so that is my budget +- 2K
I saw a G-Wagon in my local paper for 3K, but I wasnt quick enough, Im certain ill find something in the 7-10 K range that isnt totally rotten.
I also realize how much it does cost to restore a car, but if i find one that needs work i usually do it myself including body and paint. which saves costs dramatically.

As for the 20K comment I made earlier, thats just my opinion, eveyone has one. I personally wont be handing over 20K for a 460 Gwagen, If there are people out there who will hand over the $$ thats great, its just not me.

I have seen some photos of the diesels that you have installed and they look very professional. Personally I am a bit of a function over form kinda guy, 4 years ago i installed a 617 into a 500 SEL, and my install was not even close to the quality of work that you do.
That level of quality and clean installs takes time which therefor takes lots of money.

It is always nice to find people willing to put the work into restoring these trucks, as most just want to buy a turn key truck (and if a person can't/doesn't want to work on it themself that is what he/she should do). Although these trucks are expensive to fix, if you find one that does everything it is supposed to do (4wd works as it should, axles are in good repair, no vibrations in the driveline, ect) you can always rebuild it and repair the body and make it so you know exactly what you have, and if you are resourceful in finding parts, fabricating panels, ect you might be able to get off cheaper in the end than buying a turn key G. There is always something to be said for pouring your own blood, sweat, and tears into a vehicle even if it does cost as much or more in the end than what you could buy one for.

I tried to contact both sellers(Kamloops & Ontario) from past few weeks. From the pictures I think the Kamloops one looks better. However, I am skeptical on a turbocharged motor(N/A motor the best). Not that I’m incapable on mechanical work. I just want to have less sleepless nights and bad dreams.
I do agree with most of the above comments on a good G won’t be cheap and a turn key G should have warranty from the seller. At the moment my budget doesn’t allow me to get a fancy W463 G. I will just keep looking an older one.

Icefire....I hope I didn't sound too harsh an I am glad to hear you
don't mind getting your hands dirty. You obviously have some
experience with old Benzes which is good. I applaud people like
you who want to give an old 460 a new breath of life.
