kiwi_g Veteran Date registered: May 2006 Location: New Zealand Vehicle(s): 1986 300GD 1986 190E 2.3 16V Posts: 133 | 460 rust issues hey guys i have a 1986 460 300GD auto and the rear spring towers are rather rusty and it failed our vehicle safety test as a result. i seem to remember reading somewhere that it is possible to get replacement parts for these if so is there a part no. where do i get them i´m going to get a price to fabricate as well see which is more cost effective yes i know i am a cheapskate but i do have some scottish ancestry so it is to be expected | ||

I suffered the same test failure recently but this was rust on the bump stop mount, as this is not load bearing the decision had to be reversed on appeal. | ||

By the way, I love these questions, you see to get them on all forums: "I have a Toyota, do you know who sell parts to these vehicles, or, I drive a Ducati, what dealer sell spare parts, or Kawasaki, Peugeot, or what ever? J., be happy that many are not that smart to realize that Mercedes parts could come from a Mercedes dealer - etc. Enjoy the advantage of having figured that one out (and a few others along the way) and say "Thank you!" to them. As often as you can. Because it ensures you a better job, less competition and more money. | ||

Because it ensures you a better job, less competition and more money. true i could have gone to a dealer but i have recently discovered a local company who import mercedes parts and the price difference makes it worthwhile and i feel alot more comfortable walking into their warehouse rather than walking into a mercedes showroom | ||
