RE: Polls- whats the point ?

Perhaps we need a poll on the subject.

RE: Polls- whats the point ?

I think its OK that we have them.
Some seem like twisted conversation starters (So, how much money are you making?). Some are intriguing - most are silly.
But as a part of the freedom of speech we should not even attempt to restrict them (we have already too much censorship).
Handle them like any other post, or TV programing, ignore them if its not for you.

Re: Polls- whats the point ?

how about we have a poll on whether it is
a) better to ignore them
b) censor them
c) answer them
d) criticise them

But it does seem like suddenly everyone discovered the poll option... i think a similar thing happened in Vegas recently too....

Re: Polls- whats the point ?

They would be wonderful if a large enough number of members responded; then you would have something meaningful (or at least interesting). For instance, the one about age of first G shows a somewhat skewed bell curve that pretty much tracks what would be the average person’s best years from a wage and earnings perspective.

Other than that, since the participation is usually lacking, as Harald says, they just wind up jumpstart some twisted and disjointed posts.

Re: Polls- whats the point ?

My take is that they are fine - I ignore the ones that don't interest me and move on.
In other discussion groups I follow, polls are used as an informal way to vote for something, such as when is a good date for a trip/outing, or should we do this or that. Members vote accordingly and decisions are made absed on the votes.
