Can anyone perhaps tell me the exact amount of gearbox oil (2.9 Turbo diesel 2001 model) that should be in the gearbox Also what should the oil dipstick level be when the car is cold and at working temperature Thanks | ||

As far as I know, all the MB gearboxes for Gs of that vintage use a Dexron III -compatable Automatic Transmisison Fluid. Everybody has their favorite one :^) The owner's manual for the car would be required to be certain of the proper level inspection technique. Maybe someone here has one. I'd hate to lead you astray as over-filling the box can be very dangerous if the extra fluid is expelled out a vent and contacts exhaust. It can cause a fire. Good luck! | ||

The service manual for the 722.3 automatic calls for 6.2 liters of ATF when changed. Oil level when engine is warm (80 degrees C) should always be at the center between min and max. When cold (20 C) the level should be 30 mm below the min line (except 500GE and G320).
