You've got a nice one there.  At least with the SWB you have something that's a little different from what any soccer mom or real estate agent could pick up from MB in '02-on.  Is that the power top version?  If so, say a little prayer to the convertible gods every night.  I hear the parts to repair those are kuh-razy expensive.

Too bad Q's not here to tell you, "All it needs is 6" of lift and some nice 38's...."  :

Very nice.

Louis,
If you have Euro version of Becker/Harman Kardon Traffic Pro it will not works with US Nav CD.
I can send you Nav CD from my unit just to try; I have traffic pro on my truck.

Re: 2000 g500 Cabriolet Classic Edition

It's power top. At least he doesn't have to worry about the sunroof mechanisms which can't be much cheaper or convoluted.

The Classics are actually 99's in the Rest of World correct?... only reason i ask is because they don't have the steering wheel controls for the stereo? or do they? If so the Harman Traffic Pro wont allow for control by the steering wheel controls... i already tried..., it doesn't have the Can Bus socket.

I guess the point is that since they don't have steering wheel functionality (which i was trying to keep), unless you really like that they have a nice stock look (which i do), and can be found for quite cheap (which i like), and drop right in, you might want to consider something newer for more functionalities sake...

Cool truck! I couldn't find a nice diesel cab in my price range so i bought a lotus. oh well...

Nice G - I have always lusted after a Classic Cabrio. They are indeed very rare and this is only the second one I have ever seen for sale. The other was in Scotland and the price on the window said £39,995.

All the classics have steering wheel controls as this was the model that introduced it to the G range. It was to commemorate 20years of the G. There was even a special website put up by Graz which saddly no longer exists.

Hi everybody I´m the newest member of PointedThree and my newest and first MB acquisition is a 2001 MB G500 Cabriolet dressed in Puch colors that I want to share with everybody. I call it the "Grasshopper" and if I can attach a picture you will see why.

That looks very close to the old 460 green. Very cool looking. Where are you located? I see the cabrio doesn't have the USA side marker lights.

What exactly makes it a "classic" edition? The purple one looks just like the 96' Europa 320 cabrio I've seen here in Charleston a couple of times. Same color.

Hi Freddy, Welcome to our folrum.

1.) Please complete your "My Profile" (upper left side of the page) to tell us the year and model of your G, as well as where you're located.

2.) When posting pictures in the future, please resize them to a maximum of 800 pixels in the largest direction. Thanks. (I did it for you this time, but next time you might not like my results.)

Jonathan

The Classic was a limited edition of 500 units of the 2000 specs G500 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the GWagen.

If was offered in both LHD and RHD and for LHDs you could choose any of the three W463 existing bodywork versions: Cabrio and SWB and LWB hardtops.

However, Cabrios and SWB hardtops are extremely rare. I have only ever seen two Cabrios and one SWB hardtop.

Only six RHD Classics were ever made. All of them in LWB.

Features of all '99 Classics are the 2000-spec multifunction steering wheel, the dark aubergine paintjob and the two-tone black-aubergine leather interior. All Classics came fully-loaded, with just things such as the front bullbar and the seats in the boot as options.

Some pictures to follow...

RE: 2000 g500 Cabriolet Classic Edition

Interesting to hear it was a limited edition run of 500. I was lead to believe it wasn't number restricted as was the 500GE and 230GE jubilee models. I've been after one of these for ages. No wonder it's so difficult.

 Tim

I have recently found a way of retrieving a good part of this old website. Go here
http://www.archive.org   and type in the way back when machine box the old website address.
http://www.graz.daimlerchrysler.com/20yg/e/start.htm
You then have the option of chosing a date to retrieve.  Not perfect but if you poke around a bit (technical term) there is quite a lot of it still there.
