Now, with the introduction of BlueTEC clean diesel to the SUV family and the availability of this groundbreaking technology in all 50 states, Mercedes-Benz is once again leading the way. An exciting new diesel engine from the company that invented diesel, BlueTEC represents an environmental solution that doesn't demand sacrifices. BlueTEC maintains the power and efficiency of diesel technology, while converting exhaust, to create the world's cleanest diesel engines. It's more fuel-efficient than gasoline, more purchase-friendly than hybrid, and cleaner than any other diesel engine on earth. And perhaps most importantly, it's a Mercedes-Benz. http://www.mbusa.com/microsite/bluetec/index.jsp (main_story.jpg) (story_1.jpg) Attachments ---------------- main_story.jpg (40KB - 3 downloads) story_1.jpg (6KB - 2 downloads)

There are a whole bunch of deal breakers when it comes to the ML version: 1.) AdBlue can only be added by the dealer at regular service intervals. 2.) There is no spare tire, as the AdBlue tank takes up the space where the spare tire used to be. 3.) Run flat tires on the ground. Not for me!

No Spare?? I guess they think we'll depend on the road side assistance.

Disable the EGR. What is the point of making a cleaner engine if it consumes more fuel!?!

It sprays the AdBlue solution (urea in water) into the exhaust to reduce nitrogen oxides. You ought to learn a little more about the system before commenting. The AdBlue system sprays solution (urea in water) into the exhaust to reduce nitrogen oxides in the SCR catalyst. The DPF is cleaned by raising the exhaust temperature to the point soot burns off the filter surface. This is done one of two ways: Mercedes' BlueTec uses active regeneration. When the particulate filter becomes full the computer manipulates the fuel injection to force high exhaust temperatures. This wastes fuel by blowing high heat into the exhaust rather than using it to produce power. Edited by ForcedInduction 6/8/2008 9:12 PM
