Re: Mercedes Quality is Much Improved

It looks like Mercedes quality control is much improved compared to previous years. And from seating in the new Mercedes, you can feel that the quality is indeed back. There is still room for improvement, but the new C-class is solid as a rock. MB is back to it's old ways of making bank vaults, but their performance is still average.

I am equally impressed by some of the improvements made by other manufacturers. Hyundai? Ford? I think they had bigger obstacles to overcome to get to that position.

I agree...the new Hyundai Genesis is pretty impressive for a $35k car.

I'll be happier when MB ranks ahead of the disgusting Lexus and Infiniti cars.

I like Lexus automobiles. The interior quality is quite impressive. But, the Mercedes still wins out with me, especially after I saw the 2009 C Class.

Sure have. They drive like appliances. Their exterior styling resembles a mutated spacecraft. They will not and have not aged gracefully.

You mean that Mercedes R-class are beautiful designs and have "aged" well??? If Lexus does not age well, then why is their resale value so darn good?? Why is it that their long term maintenance is low and their parts lasts longer??

BTW, you have the making a fine Mercedes fanboy with blind enthusiasm!!

Lexus hold their value for one reason and one reason only, because they are reliable. In Europe where people pay attention to the aesthetics of an autombile, the Lexus and Infiniti brands are scorned. My enthusiasm for Mercedes is not so blind. I share the same enthusiasm as most of the world and most of the world shares a dislike for Lexus.

Re: Mercedes Quality is Much Improved

Aesthetics?? You mean, R-class type aesthetics?? Laughable! You said that Lexus don't age well, right? Well, for me, a vehicle that ages well is a vehicle that has reliable parts that don't fail, don't drain the owner's bank account, and remain well-put-together as the first day of ownership. You may be different, but a Lexus usually does this better than everyone else. Mercedes is not on the same playing field at this moment in time. Trust me, i believe that MB is moving up (and Lexus has slipped a bit recently), but MB has dropped so far that it is still behind the popular luxury brands from japan.

RE: Mercedes Quality is Much Improved

You keep referring to R class. R class is one of a myriad of mercedes models. It does not represent the entirety of the mercedes model line up. Every Lexus and Infiniti SUV is an aesthetic abomination. If you carefully examine a Lexus you will see that it emulates some styling ques of successful european marks such as mercedes, BMW and Audi. It does not unify these design ques to successflly to create a harmonious whole.

Re: Mercedes Quality is Much Improved

And you think Mercedes C-class is "original"?? Or should i say "overdone" or "overwrought"?? Or the S-class?? Hey, at least, those fender bulges are in line with the pathetic Acura wannabe flavor. BMW does have good styling for the most part, but then again, their recent "innovative" designs are downright stupid (X6 ring a bell??). Audi are pretty cool designs, but we all know about it's suspect quality and reliability...Audi is not even in the same league in the "aging" aspect.

Lexus does have some bad designs, no doubt. However, as noted, every manufacturer has their "Aztec" in the lineup. I appreciate vehicles that age and hold up well over it's life. And for the moment, this is where Mercedes has some catching up to do.

RE: Mercedes Quality is Much Improved

I think that the current C class and S class are both very nice designs. I don't care much for the previous C class and the previous S class is ok. I didn't care much for the 140 S class when it came out but I do feel that it has aged gracefully. None of these cars however are ugly.
