Can anyone tell me if the Roadside Assistance number works even if you have not subscribed to TeleAid? Because, if so, then TeleAid seems like a waste of money, provided you have a cell phone handy. And I'm talking about just the basic "safety" level of service, since I'd never use the "concierge" services anyway.. Thanks

Roadside is, of course, free. BTW, teleaid is satellite where cell phones are not. You will have much more coverage with teleaid (say if you broke down in a 'dead' cell phone zone).

That is how they unlock your doors if you lock your keys in call the number and bam. Tele aid is not run on satellites. It is run on cell phone service. tele aid has 2 version analog and digital & analog. The new cars come with the digital & analog. The analog service connects using ATT and the new digital service works with verizon. but the digital service isnt available everywhere like outside of major citys so they also have to keep the analog service. Your tele aid can be in an area where it cant make a call out. The rule of thumb is if your cell phone gets service tele aid works if not your out of luck.

If you search on benz world you will find a few cases where people could not get tele aid to connect since they where away from ATT cell phone coverage. And if you read your article is says nothing about using satellites for the call. Edited by AndrewAZ 5/5/2006 5:03 PM

I would say that the ultimate authority on this would probably be Wolfgang, who has an awesome site about this very thing: http://www.whnet.com/4x4/phones.html

Could they be under the driver's or passenger's seats? I don't recall seeing anything in the 550, but it could be worth it to look around there.

Thanks Tele aid will be automatically called if you're in an accident and your airbag goes off. You may not be prepared to make this call yourself in such circumstance. Your car could be a bit easier to find if stolen with Tele Aid working, too.
