RE: INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOPS THREAD

In Falls Church, Virginia (just outside Washington DC)

I have had good experiences with the following two shops:

Don Pool Mercedes
6917 Lee Highway 703.534.4222

Imported Car Service

30 Hillwood Ave

703-536-4500 icscars.com

Both of these shops are notable for servicing high-dollar classics and show cars as well, which I generally take to be a good sign. Note that Don Pool has been around a long time so there is some contention about him here and there; I think that's probably unavoidable. Sam Dawood is the guy at ICS to see. HTH & YMMV of course.

Scott Imports
60 Kent Ave
Warwick, RI 02886
401-738-7879

Scott MacKenzie, Mercedes factory trained mechanic. Resonable rates, HONEST and great work. The kind of place where the customer is not chased out of the shop. Customers frequently "hang out" even when their car is not being worked on. Can't recommend him enough!

If not for Wolfgang and his attention to detail and honesty, MB would have lost me a long time ago as a customer. He is my FACTORY service. He is the only one in the greater NY area I would let touch a G.

A and J German Motorenwerke

Tampa, FL 33612

Real Germans with accents and everything – mechanics made in the same place as your MB. Super slow and not the cheapest, they are the most honest and knowledgeable MB shop around. The will refuse to work on your car unless they know what is wrong and can fix it. (like I said: real Germans…)

RE: INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOPS THREAD

In Bend, Oregon:

(at least 120 miles from the next nearest MB Shop)

Jaeger Performance
63089 Sherman Rd.
Bend, OR
97701

541.389.0464

Owner Ron Welton is an honest guy, has access to rare parts and provides excellent service. I just had the plugs and injectors replaced on my 84 280 GE and I am happy.

Also (gasp) I have had good experiences with the local MB Dealer although never had any service performed by them.

Good mechanic

It is very hard to find a good mechanic, and I have found a great one, he is always willing to help and to work in any G, so If you guys find your self in the east coast of florida with a G problem, go to the mercedes dealer in Fort Pierce and ask for Vald.

Re: Good mechanic

In the DC area, try Euromotorcars in Bethesda, Maryland. Call Mark Singer directly. He has no problem with grey market "G"'s. Good guy to deal with also.

G Service in DC area

Mark Singer at Euromotorcars in Bethesda, MD (a M-B, Bentley & Rolls dealer) just finished doing a bunch of work on my G.  The shop rates are higher than you average mechanic, but they were excited to work on the G and said that they have other clients with older ones that they work on too.

They were reasonable and thorough and in every way showed a lot of care.  The mechanic even shook my hand and thanked me for letting him work on it!

Everything they did was perfect.  He said he'd be happy to work on more.

Now if I could just smoothe out that ride....

Re: G Service in DC area

I live in Northern Virginia (Ashburn, formerly in McLean) and have had my '95 G320 since early 2001. For non-trivial repairs I put up with the five hour journey and entrust it to Wolfgang and Alex at Wolfgang's Inc. in Tenafly, NJ (up north of the GW Bridge, almost to the NY state line). They're more expensive than your average shop too... but they're in no way an "average" shop and are just as picky about how the truck runs as I am. Worth the trip.

Re: G Service in DC area

I know of a great G mechanic only a short distance from Ashburn. Larry Billing works out of his home (semi retired now) in Castleton, Va. which is not too far outside Warrenton. He's excellent and seems to know the G inside and out.

Larry's Garage, LLC
323 Castleton Ford Rd.
